Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 UPDATED on 17:01 - Feb 18 by A_Fans_Dad | How did we manage to stay in 12th place? |
The league is horrendous. Probably worst I’ve seen it since we have been in it. Blackburn are woeful and yet they are level on points with the playoffs. That’s what is so frustrating about the situation, we are so much better and he simply is unable to bring forward an effective way to play. I keep saying it, but even a moderately competent manager would have us in and around the play off spots.

Most of the rest of this division is utterly useless too, it's our saving grace this season. The eternal optimists will yell you we're still only 7 points off the play offs though.

Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 UPDATED on 16:58 - Feb 18 by union_jack | Oh dear! Anyone else feel that our attitude was one of let’s not get hurt, try a few things here and there, it really doesn’t matter. That’s what I saw in our play. No urgency, no desire just going through the motions as on the training pitch. Some of our on the ball play today was almost amateur-like. The ball bobbling under their feet, getting into tight spots Ithaca three defenders around them then crucially losing the ball Maybe on balance if play we didn’t deserve to lose but I’ll take it if it’s the final nail in Martin’s coffin because we are going to be looking over our shoulders very soon. |
Absolutely. Wednesday wasn’t much different. Both teams were abject today, though according to the commentary that’s how Blackburn usually play. Martin was a broken man after the transfer window and Birmingham game, that seems to have transmitted to the players. It would cost to pay him off and bring in replacements, but if we’re going to do it in the summer, I’d rather the new man have 14 games now and hit next season running rather than come in pre season and take time to adjust and impose. We should easily be able to afford it with all the deals that we couldn’t quite get over the line in January.

whilst seeing every ones point these owners do not care like we all do ,they will not spend the money to remove him and his coaches and they will not really support ANY new manager as this one and the last 2 goes to prove, so untill they sell up get used to this year on year to come because THATS where the MAJOR problems stem from

Do we really have to keep going through this? - They have spent more in the last 18 months than any other owners of our club outside the Premier League in the same time period. - They have smashed our transfer record for a single player not once, but twice. - They have spent more in the football league than any other Swansea owner has - They have put more personally funded and sourced money in the club than any previous owners have. Let’s not start these myths again that they are somehow the reason why Martin insists on playing a way that doesn’t work.

If he is going to go in the summer I can't see why he doesn't go now. How much extra would it cost, a couple of months wages. Even if he had a clause in his contract with an annual decreasing severance, it wouldn't kick in until August 1st the anniversary of his signing.

It’s probably a case of paying more compensation to bring someone in now rather than pre season too. As I said though, if there were genuine attempts to sign players last month, there should be a bit of budget. Is that better spent now, giving the new guy a running start and no excuses in August?

January has nothing to do with it. We were 15th before it. We were 15th last season. I’m sure Karlan Grant wouldn’t have fixed Martins system.

What mess have they created? They appointed Martin, we were all relatively happy. The majority of the fan base seemed to want to give him time, even said that we should keep him if relegated. What are they doing that you disapprove of exactly?

of course it has we lost 5 players brought 1 back from a loan and were in striking distance of the play offs the way the owners work what is the point of a C E O or recruitment team because they must know what they can spend and when they sort deals the guess who vetos them sorry these people are the worst thing to happen to Swansea fc EVER

Our position in the table reflects the quality of those players. Shocking defending again to concede late on. It comes down to concentrating for 90+ mins and having composure when things get frantic. Our players can't do either of those.

We were not in striking distance of the play offs. It’s a mathematical fallacy, it takes Martin 18 games to win 3 games… people see a points gap and immediately convert it into how many games worth of points it is. It doesn’t work like that. We did not “lose” 5 players. We allowed players to leave that Martin didn’t want to play, it’s a massive difference.

That’s a strange conclusion to make, but I suppose it saves Russell Martin from criticism so it’s a conclusion I’m sure many will make. Either that, or the owners, or both. But definitely not the guy that has never finished in the top half in his managerial life and plays the same way every week for 4 seasons straight now without it ever really working. Can’t be his fault. That would be silly.
