Big Jeff on sky yesterday mentioned that if Oldham were relegated they'd be the first former Prem side to be so.

I think the only other former Prem side in League 2 is Bradford?

His arm was not in a 'natural position' and it struck his arm so I'm not sure why it wasn't given.

From the highlights looks like the ref was right on both handball calls - first just outside the box and second, the player had his back to the ball when it hit his arm. Grant definitely should have put away the second goal-line chance from the Charman header off the post but looks like the defender got a toe to the ball for the first chance.
I know highlights can be an inaccurate reflection of a game but these suggest an excellent overall performance where a 4 goal margin wouldn't have flattered us.

Three home games, 7 points from 9, three clean sheets, much more determination to get stuck in and graft. Well done Dale!

Well said 7 points from 9 and 3 clean sheets.

Dorsett my MOM a real improvement from him lately.

Up the Dale - let's get to 53 points on Easter Monday.

A comfortable win against a very poor and uninterested Walsall team...possibly the worst opposition we've faced this season?

Thought that for a good 70% of the game , we were streets ahead of them, with the only reservation being that we could and really should have won by 3 or 4.

Good performances from our defence, almost completely snuffed their attacks out. Midfield did ok...but there's room for improvement , and Charman worked his socks off again up front.

Probably safe now, so let's see if we can finish with a flourish rather than a whimper, and get even improve further on our league position.

I had us down to struggle at the start of the campaign, so anything above where we are right now will be a relative success.

Super post match interview with the manager. Loads of little messages to the players and fans to say stick with me I know what I'm doing, yet delivered in a humble way without a hint of I told you so about it.

If we can find a way to get consistent 7/10 or better performances from them week in and week out next season then a front 3 of Charman, Grant and Campbell is a prospect to really whet the appetite throughout the summer.

Agree about the ref. but |I don't agree about Ball for Dooley. They're different types of players - I know Dooley gets stick on here but he knits the play together well and rarely loses the ball or misplaces a pass. One of the successes of the past month has been a more settled team selection with Kelly & Dooley in midfield but (crucially) the front 3 doing a much better job of pressing opponents so those two don't get overrun . Ball does add steel and a greater goal threat from the midfield but he doesn't have the quick feet needed to knit play - I think both his & Campbell's injuries may have forced changes from Stockdale which have turned out to be fortuitous.

Interesting observation about Dooley, Tony - I described him to someone as the glue which holds the side together when he's in the team. No doubt his link play is invaluable (at least in some eyes) but whether it's confidence or something else, if he's playing backward passes a lot I know we are doomed. I'm guilty of sitting in the stand and suggesting what the players should be doing as much as the next man, but if I could change one thing about him it would be to make him more attackminded. He may be under orders a lot of the time but when he's looking to be progressive we play on the front foot and look a completely different team. I do also acknowledge the opponent has a say in this too.

I'm not getting too giddy after 7 points from 9, which is just what we needed, because we are still making some bad decisions when passing to get rid of the ball rather than looking elsewhere, and so are playing ourselves into trouble too much which will be punished by better teams, but that was another really good effort from everyone and a very well deserved 3 points which has taken a lot of pressure off next Saturday. Shun's observations on our home form were well made too, and as isitme observed, building on that next season with more wins has to be our objective.

Speaking of which, I also admit to having a 'wobble' with Robbie when results and performances were too predictable and not good enough, and in the postseason analysis, it has to be asked why we had to stand at the edge and look into the abyss before improvements came? Nevertheless, Robbie has more than earned another spell to continue the rebuild.

All in all an improvement towards the end of the season and hoping for more in the games left to help ST sales and give more cause for optimism for the next campaign.

I had a bit of a wobble over our “millionaire” manager a couple of months ago or so but I’m so glad he has managed to find us a bit of form. It’s a world away from some of the stuff we’ve had to put up with before the ‘mini-run’ and he deserves great credit for it. Well done Robbie.

Shame some people seem to have lost their login details and offer up some praise too but I guess that’s not in their negative nature.

Agree with most of that. I also wouldn't be too upset if we manage to sign the right players to play 433 with Grant as part of a midfield 3!

Strange to think that after finally getting a settled and impressive back 5, there’s a very good chance none of them will be here next season.

You need to do a "Thunderbastard special edition" of an edited montage from the long-range goals thread. That would be entertaining!
