Omicron in Rochdale on 19:07 - Dec 22 with 1283 views | D_Alien | I think we can finally start to be cautiously optimistic that the worst of the pandemic is over. The latest data continues to show only a small rise in hospitalisations and the mortality rate continues to fall, as it has been doing for some time now It's always best to wait for the data to come through and every day that goes by since the spread of Omicron started gives additional evidence that it's following the classic pattern of viruses in finding a way to spread without killing it's hosts. Even the past week or so since this thread started has made a huge difference in discerning the disease profile Unless this changes, imo the Scottish & Welsh leaders will be shown to have over-reacted ahead of the data

It will be more a case of luck than good judgement , if cases carry on growing exponentially, even if leading to lower hospitalisation rates there is still the possibility of meltdown in the NHS, mind that happens in ‘normal’ times given bed shortages and a and e congestion. It may be that if further measures are needed soon, they will be brought in too late. That said, I hope this does mean better times ahead soon. A number of businesses I patronise are really struggling because of a lack of staff(isolating) and a lack of bookings
