There comes a point when a referee cannot keep up with the pace of the game, in Haines case, last night, irrespective of his age, was a game too far. It is not acceptable for a first class referee to attempt to run the game from the centre circle because he simply could not keep up with the pace of the game. His continual acceptance of timewasting and feigning of injury by one of the two teams was well beyond what might be construed as evenhandedness.
