I was talking to a London based Spurs supporting colleague of mine about Kane after the Scotland game. Whilst very much appreciating Kane and his goals, he did say that he struggles against better opposition and that he has a propensity to go missing in big games. He did say he’s not an all-rounder (or should I say good enough all rounder) of the Drogba or Shearer type. All opinions.

Fair enough - I'd guess your friend is very much in the minority of Spurs fans in that opinion though. Can only imagine it comes back to the CL final vs Liverpool which admittedly he never should've played.
He's scored more North London Derby goals than anyone, has scored against Barca, Bayern, Juve & Real in the Champions League and was the top scorer at the last World Cup. It's not a terrible record in big games.

I probably didn’t highlight the positives enough. He did say he’s very good at what he does, he’s an excellent finisher. He’s also one of their own and is a Tottenham legend in his eyes. It was almost a don’t expect too much from him. He benefits from creativity, he’s not necessarily himself creative. I also think the recent League Cup final and his record against City and Liverpool etc may have informed the thinking.Scores bucket loads against others.

Tbf to Kane, I'm not sure even a peak Messi or Maradona could've done much in his place for that City game. He was in a vastly inferior XI being coached by Ryan Mason against Pep Guardiola. If we're judging Kane's ability in big games based on that, it seems harsh when he's clearly performed well in a lot of big games beforehand.
As for not necessarily being creative - he got more assists than any other Premier League player this season. Think that would probably have been a fair comment a couple of seasons ago, but not any more.

You'd have to say there's massively high chance if you'd accept half the bollox the media would like to believe, anywhere else this happened and you'd ALL have to isolate now... like all the way through this though, football seems to have its own rules relating to "covid safe"
Edit... Mount and Chilwell now been told to isolate,

What I don't get is there are no close contacts in the Scotland camp supposedly? Surely he was in their changing room, training with them and close to them far more than he was Mount and Chilwell?

I'm guessing they've all since been tested, saying that they said this afternoon when it all came out that the whole England team had since tested negative, now it comes out them 2 need to isolate so something doesn't add up

Probably because they were on camera hugging. It will be to do with PR and I'm guessing some people have made an issue of it.

It was a better performance from Kane last night albeit I’m not sure it would be treated as a good performance if he hadn’t had been so quiet in the first two games. Still, it was better. It’ll be interesting to see how he now responds to a ramping up of the opposition.

Having Sterling closer to him rather than out wide helped him slightly I thought as Sterling wants to get beyond and get into those shooting positions slightly more often than Foden does. Not a criticism of Foden, just a different style of player. He's definitely still nowhere near his best at the moment, don't think even the most staunch Kane fan (me) can deny that.

Dilemma's now for Southgate. He's probably fortunate he's more or less ruled out Mount for the next game. Still got to pick 2 from Saka,Grealish and Foden. I've got a feeling he'll go for the big match experience of Foden and Grealish with Sterling and Kane. Harsh on Saka after last night but he's a great option to have.

You could be right, and there's also Sancho and Rashford to come on if needed
Rashford has fallen way down the list of creative players. His form has dropped off a cliff (not the old training ground) and he seems to have lost more than a yard of pace, seemingly unable to take on defenders as we now see Saka doing. Unless he can get his mojo back i'm not sure what his career prospects hold for him, particularly at international level. I can see him moving away from football and towards his campaigning interests before the usual retirement age
Hope i'm wrong, because when he first burst onto the scene he had everything it takes to become world class and scored for fun

There was a lot of talk about Rashford carrying an injury over the last part of the season and into the tournament. He's most probably still carrying it.

He has spoken to the media about playing through injuries, but it's a question of whether he'll ever be free from some niggle or other that will stop him achieving the pace that defenders fear. Just being able to make it onto the park isn't good enough, but that's what he appears to be doing
I turned off the France game when they went 3-1 up. The Swiss looked broken especially after their penalty miss. Couldn't believe it when I saw the result this morning.

I did exactly the same, gave up on it as game over. Seems there's a few big names falling and throwing up some unexpected results.
Just hope Southgate doesn't go all defensive again as we could well be the next to leave, stick with some pace and creativity and go at them and we'll never have a better chance to progress
