Not for us, but for Bury.
i was credit checking a potential customer and decided to nosey onto
BFC's file and was (or maybe not) supprised to see a new CCJ for circa £22k lodged
only Wednesday this week.
looks like they are in need of a bumper crowd tomorrow to settle some bills

I know this season we have effectively lost a home fixture, but in a normal season, we would still be playing someone, so if average away attendance is around 800 (I am guessing at this figure) we would still turn over around £10k after VAT and costs so the real cost of bURY going is probably nearer £20k.

I know that’s a fair bit of cash for us, but take away the hassle bURY cause, the additional planning, damage to the ground, having to see at hear them and most of all the fact they no longer exist as a league club, I think it’s a cost we can cope with, both as a club and especially as fans!

As R17 says, bratfurd are a bigger loss than bURY, tranmere and Ipswich should bring decent crowds, and if we continue to play good football, our crowds should increase a bit as well!

We may even get a Utd replay?

The date and bury's state-of-play would need to be factored in to any debate about loss of income

Saturday 14 December is one of the prime shopping days prior to Xmas, and crowds are traditionally down at that time of year. But even more importantly, if bury had started playing with a 12pt penalty and reduced squad due to financial restrictions; and almost certainly on the back of discouraging results, how many of their fans would've travelled to COA to see them potentially highly embarrassed? Given their most recent followings, i'd suggest they'd struggle to bring 1000

All highly hypothetical of course. The fact remains, the overall loss to clubs like Dale of having cheating clubs like bury in the league outweighs any immediate financial consideration. the longer term financial repercussions (case in point, for Mansfield; or for ourselves in 2008 re Stockport) are unfathomable

The whole local derby thing being a financial windfall is wrong.

Let’s assume they bring 2000, actually pay for tickets, and spend £5 each on pies programs etc. Call that 60k. After police costs, more stewards and damage to seats etc it’s so negligible, for a club run properly.

The game is a fun local rivalry game, but it’s not the be All and end all. We don’t need a bURY or Oldham game, it’s probably no more profitable than Peterborough at home.

Why do all our fans on here turn into accountants rather than football fans? The Derby’s are a better experience, due to the tension of not wanting to lose to our local rivals.

Sport (and I mean any sport) is about rivalry, whether it’s about who’s the best, hatred, etc.

Oldham doesn’t have the same feel as bury to me. That’s probably because we’ve played them far more than Oldham in the last 15/20 years

As I don't live local anymore, I'm probably not representative of the majority, but the only thing that matters to me is league position. I couldn't give a toss if, hypothetically, we lost both games to anyone as long as we do well in the league and play good football. If a derby earns us money, it's all gravy. Seems like we won't be short of gravy this campaign anyway.

Point taken, but the discussion around finances was in response to the club's immediate reaction to bury being expelled as "that'll cost us £80k in lost revenue" rather than "think of the fans and the bragging rights".

Well in that case we may as well save ourselves some money and lay off all the staff who deal with that kind of thing. This forum has it covered..

Fair point....also I urge us all to stop having opinions on player selection/ performance as well as team tactics/performance as the club has a Manager, coaches and scouts for that kind of thing so we don't need to worry a little heads having opinions on that do we. They've got it covered.

Sweetcorn - still interested in your response to my earlier question. Let's say Bury were somehow reinstated into L2, and by some dramatic downturn in fortune Dale went down to L2 next year and your beloved derby was therefore reinstated for the 20/21 season. Would you still feel the same way if Bury finished 22nd, Dale came 23rd and we lost our football league status? Or Bury 3rd and Dale 4th? Appreciate its a hypothetical, but the point is it will happen to someone. Maybe not Dale. Its the unfairness of these situations as football fans (not just Dale fans) that is driving us here. One league position at this level can mean the difference between existence and "footnote in football history".

I do have to wonder how many of us are on there, making up for the years of tolerating robshaker, pdiddy and pops.

Every time I see another cringe post or a league table of 23 a little bit of me pisses myself!

I’d guess there are about two Dale fans on there incognito and a few others open about their support.

And then there are those who get accused of being Dale fans just because they post something they don’t like.
