Southampton fans travelling to North London for the seasons opening fixture agaonst Tottenham Hotspur will be devastated to hear that they will miss the debut of Spurs new signing Richarlison who will be suspended.
Saints going to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has already been written into Spurs folklore in the minds of some, this was going to be the day that Spurs finally started to lay down their credentials to truly be a side that could win the Premier League and leading the line would be their new signing from Everton, Richarlison.
But sadly half of this story is not going to be written as Richarlison has received a one match ban after throwing a flare back into the crowd during his former club Everton's 1-0 win over Chelsea back in May.
It was a breach of Rule E3, which covers improper conduct. Pyrotechnics are banned from football stadiums in England and the Brazilian has pleaded guilty to the offence.
In some ways you have to feel sorry for Richarlison, whilst I am no lover of his as a player or as a person, I do think it is a little unjust that a player has to put up with all kinds of stick, but if he retaliates then he is hit by the authorities.
But on the opposite side of things it could be countered that if he had been an Everton supporter who had picked up a flare that was thrown and then threw it into another part of the crowd, then that fan would probably now have a criminal record, a hefty fine and be banned from attending football matches for 3-4 years.
So from that respect Richarlison has got off very lightly compared to the average supporter.
But the good news for Saints fans is that he will not be playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Southampton, so that will be one less thing to worry about on the day.
