The Wimmer Takes All !

Saints are being linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur central defender Kevin Wimmer, but there could be a problem.

Saints were linked with Wimmer back in January but were knocked back in their pursuit, now though Wimmer wants away from White Hart Wembley after only making 15 Premier League appearances in two seasons at Spurs and of them only 4 starts and an appearance as sub in the season just gone.

The problem is though the price, Spurs want £20 million for a player who cost them only £4.3 million in the summer of 2015.

This perhaps shows just how far removed Daniel Levy is from the real world in that he sees that two years of barely playing a Premier League game has increased the players value by nearly five times what they paid for him.

To put this in perspective this is nearly double what Spurs themselves paid for former Saints loanee Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen and for that matter Victor Wanyama.

It seems Spurs want it both ways in transfers, they feel that they should only offer and pay other clubs a pittance when they come a calling for one of their players, yet when they want to sell a player who can't get a regular game they want top money.

Saints are interested in Wimmer but not at Spurs price and will do business at a lower valuation, however the irony is that Tottenham are looking to try to put together a bid for Virgil Van Dijk but do not have the ready cash, if they are to do so then they need to offload the likes of Wimmer and several other squad players, so the more Saints pay, the more likely it is that Spurs will be able to launch a bid albeit at their usual derisory offer level.

Give past transfer dealings with Daniel Levy and Spurs and the way they value players if Kevin Wimmer is worth £20 million then Virgil Van Dijk will be worth at least £4 million in their opening offer.
