Against the grain I think the guy has a lot of talent but not a lot of confidence. I think that is why he is really struggling at the moment. Earlier in the season he was hitting some glorious cross field passes. Perhaps he needs a bit of an arm around him. Yes, I know he is 23 but he's still a young player. |  |

He is a strange player, his body shape when he traps a ball seems all wrong and then some times he has a flash of good football. I'd honestly send him back if we can and see if we can get someone outta the youth team to replace him or another loan player. It just isn't working for him here. | |

He has a lot of confidence for me, but because of this often takes the difficult option when it's not necessary.
He looks the part and has pace but he misses tackles and has a habit of trying the difficult pass that the opposition very often intercept.
He went off due to injury and I think thats why the frustration. |  |

There was one incident in the game that rather sums him up. In the final third he tried a couple of tricks to play in an overlapping teammate, got it all wrong and set Hull on their way. At least today it was in the final third rather than the defensive third but someone really has to get a grip of this boy, bring him down a peg or two, and teach him to focus on the doing the basics well. |  | | |

To me he looks like he is over trying. If he is out of contract in May, he is currently on a season long trial with us, which might explain why he tries the more difficult option.
He needs to take a step back. He would be far more effective just doing the simple things and keeping the ball.

I said a couple of weeks ago that I think he’ll end up playing in League 2. Does some properly strange things (catching the ball in play, leaving it when in play thinking it’s gone out, bombing forward with no cover) which are a little odd even in context. But I also just think he’s not actually that good at football, technically. He gives it away a lot. I think he’s one of these academy boys who has been made to look a lot better than he is by being surrounded by other talented young boys at youth level. Because he plays full back, some of his technical deficiencies have been missed, because he has the physique and appearance of a footballer.
He has had the odd game where he has out in some good challenges and looked fine, but there is something about him, I’m not sure of. I think he’s gradually getting found out and think that may continue for a league or two. |  | | |

To put it simply, he’s not good enough.
And worse than that, he’s unreliable and actually undoes the hard work of his team mates by giving the ball away constantly, and messing about trying tricks that put us in trouble.
He’s not a kid, he’s 23. 4-5 years older than the likes of Lloyd, Kolli and Morgan.
He’s also not ours. He’s here on loan from a premiership club.

He's 23 but has only started 32 Championship games in his career and less than 50 games overall

I was actually watching Madsen with a lot of interest (albeit via the QPR+ coverage from my Tuesday home in Belgium) and he seemed to put himself about a bit. Not a lot going forward but he put a few challenges in and cleared a couple in our box - definitely looked like he was working a bit harder. Perhaps watching Morgan has shown him what he needs to do but he is miles off him as an athlete so never going to be able to replicate that. |  | | |

I agree. The difference being he wasn't a liability.
Ashby really is and in serial matches. I thought when he came on Marti had thought he'd give him some minutes higher up the pitch where he can do less damage to make up for the Leicester catastrophe and rebuild confidence. The main issue with him is he doesn't learn from his mistakes, which is worrying for him. We've all been saying he needs to just focus on doing the basics better, avoid the grandstanding and thereby eliminate the mistakes. If we've all been saying it then sure as hell Marti has too.
But instead he comes on, tries the difficult/dangerous pass again and again, playing us into the same trouble as at Leicester. Luckily Hull has nowhere near the talent Leicester forwards have and didn't punish us. He also shot when he should have passed. Now if you're Illias Chair or Sam Field with a lot of credit in the bank you can get away with it for a game or two. An Academy boy on loan not so much.
I thought Madsen looked like he was making an effort, not actively doing anything wrong and making a decent block and closing people down, which is probably what Marti asked him to do.
I just genuinely can't see us risking Ashby. Unless we need to play him a certain number of minutes to avoid a humungous additional payment (gasp). Whatever I think we won't ask Jamie Reuben to do us any more favours. |  | | |
