Well it looks like Garry won’t be hosting MOTD anymore as by the looks of things he’s pretty much been sacked by the BBC, and by the looks of things Wright is leaving as well! Be interesting to see who takes over now and anything else this could lead to…

A Conservative MP was on the news saying he wants to do it. The new chairman of the BBC, Richard Sharp, could always ask his mate, Boris Johnson, to do it.

I'd like Vinny Jones and Razor Ruddock to do it.

He shouldn't be getting involved. He can write to his mp. He can disagree with the policy. He can vote for whoever he wants to vote for. But concentrate on giving opinions about Football, which is his job, not comparing the government to the Nazis.

This was on social media, not the BBC. This country promotes free speech ( unless you offend the conservative right wing). Everybody….. is entitled to express their views unless it is illegal. Are only politicians allowed tp comment on political issues if the day?
I don’ t happen to agree with GL, but I’ll defend his right to say what he thinks outside of the workplace to the hilt.
Yeah, because the final episode on the massive decline of British wildlife is, in a large part, down to posh Lords & wealthy landowner coonts who shoot any bird of prey that dares fly over their vast acreage of land, bag a Sunday luncheon of venison as it rambles across their wild meadows, and jump on a horse on a Sunday morning & chase poor old Mr Fox for mile after mile until a pack of hounds catch it & rip it to shreds.
Absolute coonts.

When do the likes of Lineker or Corbyn ever focus on the plight of homeless veterans sleeping rough in this country, or for that matter anyone born in this country who has fallen on hard times? It's always anyone BUT our own people, it's anyone who voted for Brexit is a racist, or whoever wants to stop the flow of illegal immigration to this country is a nazi. Lineker, you took in one 'refugee' for three weeks, how wonderful, but there are now 67 million people in England, (5.5 million in Scotland and also Wales) and our infrastructure is starting to fall apart, but with your 1.35 million a year it isn't going to affect you, so shut the fu ck up.
Simple test. If Lineker was known for posting generally right of centre tweets and was perceived as a Tory and then posted something offensive, would you feel the same?

As a well-educated history expert, I would like to know how the language used by the government is different to that used in 1930's Germany. For example - how is saying a person is illegal different to saying someone is a bandit (the language used to describe the incumbents of the Warsaw ghetto)?
[Post edited 10 Mar 2023 19:15]
Even the example the give is puerile in its actualite as well as its intent. Yes they are illegal. Do you need to be told that there is a legal way to cross national borders and by extension illegal ones thaI avoid them? I am not sure why you try and draw some kind of obscene parallel with the Warsaw Ghetto as though words alone separate what happened there from Britain in 2023. It's an absurd attempt at a some kind of moral equivalence.

Yes of course. It’s not about if I agree with what someone says, it’s that I believe they have a right to say it.
Also it’s weird as hell it’s all blown up so much. Clarkson said strikers should be killed in the picket line and was allowed to work for four more years. All Lineker has done is say the language used is beyond the pale.
He didn’t call the government nazis, he didn’t suggest people should die, he didn’t say anything bigoted. He just said the tone of language was akin to language heard in a dark period of history.
As for the Attenborough thing that’s a storm in a teacup from the other side. It’s not on normal tv because it’s paid for by the bbc as a one off film and part funded by the RNIB.
People need to get a f*cking grip and stop over reacting to things

On reflection, Lineker's words comparing the government to the Nazis could cause outrage and even riots against the government, and civil unrest. To cause this from his comments, makes them unacceptable. He is entitled to his opinion, but he is not entitled to put things in a way that might cause civil unrest, or even put the MPs lives at risk by comparing them to Nazis. That's not fair or right.
What's annoying is that I like Lineker and Wright presenting MOTD. They are MOTD. They will probably be replaced by women.

Mark Chapman in the interim would be ok.
However I'll be expecting a black ginger haired lesbian woke cn.ut in his place as the BBC have quotas

As much as those things don’t help, the main issues in the UK are habitat destruction and pollution, and the knock on affect they can have on food webs, a balance in an ecosystem, the creatures niche’s as well as a lot more.

On the one hand the Tories have leaned heavily on the BBC to suspend Lineker for airing his political views.
On the other they've allowed Rees-Mogg and Anderson to go and get second jobs presenting their own opinion shows on GBeebies. And Dories has her show on TalkTV too.
It reeks of hypocrisy.

Agreed. And we also have the likes of Sheffield Council cutting down trees as and when they feel like it. Unless it's absolutely necessary, cutting down trees should be made a criminal offence.

When do the Tories consider homeless veterans ? The Tories divide the country by diverting attention from their record by demonising refugees, train drivers, teachers, the list goes on. Lineker was highlighting the language used by a faction of the Tory party.

I suggest you try watching the GB news or Talk TV progs as they pride themselves on presenting both sides of any debate. There is no law against MPs having second jobs and many do though personally I doubt they'd have enough time if they were doing their MP jobs properly.

Am glad, i dont like MOTD, just seems catared for the big teams, they dont even mention half the things about the smaller clubs performance and mostly seem to just want to sell small clubs players to the club of their choosing. for a so called punditry program on highlights and peformances of teams, its to wrapped up in the top 6 / its hosts fav clubs with biased pundits to go with it.

Of all the comments below both for and against what he has said and the follow up pied piper ish comments from hs mates, this post is probably about right
Lineker and co have held the BBC to ransom so fuk the lot of them, call their bluff and sack the lot, with the big problem for the beeb being that the EPL with probably sue them for breaking the contract!
