Tyler Roberts Missing Again 08:50 - Oct 29 with 17904 views | NorthantsHoop | Two identical non performances from Tyler at Brum and Luton. He is either unfit or not up for it, tend to feel he is a bit of a luxury player, once Armstrong came on looked much more effective.

Tyler Roberts Missing Again on 18:13 - Oct 31 by daveB | think it's a bit too early to judge Richards yet, he's come on in games which were either pretty much over or we were hanging on so hard to make any sort of impact |
he's played a total of about 50 mins for us over 5 matches

Tyler Roberts Missing Again on 06:25 - Oct 30 by numptydumpty | Armstrong. He's 19. He is playing his first games at senior level ever. In his first game terrified the opposition. Wasn't a pen or a sending off but his bustling angry run proved the match changer. Crikey. You would be incredibly effective at pushing up young players confidences. Smyth was years ago and has not really made strides forward so obviously you see something that no manager has as yet seen. But saying Armstrong won't make it after a few outings is insane. |
I never said we should sign Smyth...it was an observation about a former player. And I'm not involved in bigging up players...so I can say what I like about Armstrong. Happy to be proved wrong of course, but I reckon there is a good chance he won't be the answer to our striker problem.

I have a leeds supporting friend who said (when he signed for us) 'it was the best bit of business done by leeds in the summer... Misses so many chances and is injured 75% of the time' were his final words on the subject. [Post edited 1 Nov 2022 10:51]

just wiki'ed him, played about half the games in the premiership and championship for them, best goal-scoring total for them is 4.

That's ample time to construct a view in my opinion. Injured again and his attitude isn't the best when he has played (e.g Hull at home throwing his hands up in the air). Not for me currently.

I thought there was a £4m obligation. Not sure if that’s solely on promotion, poss appearances, too. Really hope so. Can’t doubt his application, and maybe that price tag influences my view, but on current appearances I’m not over excited about the prospect of him being here next year. I’d be concerned if we were on the hook to pay £1m for him, let alone 4

No way are we on the hook for £4mill. How could the club promise to pay money it doesn't have? Wouldn't make sense. There is an 'option to buy' for £4mill. It might, might, be compulsory if we go up. But I've never heard of a deal structured like that before. Still he'd defo be a snip at £1mill. You make not like him for his attitude but that would be a very cheap deal for a player of his attributes at this level. [Post edited 1 Nov 2022 18:11]

I believe the deal is that we can buy him for £4m if we go up but we are not obligated to buy him. That is just the price agreed if we did go up and chose to buy him. I just wish we could get a string of matches with him injury free because having met him twice it is obvious that he wants to play, do well and make an impression. I have to agree though, if we do go up and he some how makes enough games to prove his point the £4m tag may be up for negotiation!

I'm genuinely struggling to understand how any fan can 'rate' a player that is often injured and therefore never gets a long run in the team. I also struggle to understand why QPR think that they can perform miracles that other clubs and medical staff can't. There's clearly some fundamental talent there but at 24 his track record speaks for itself. Naturally I hope I'm proven completely wrong, and he goes on to score a clutch of goals for QPR this season!

huh, you'd have thought after all that time that you'd think maybe making wide ranging, pretty deep opinions on someone's ability and character based on a small sample size of evidence is a poor idea but you do you

You missed the catch all: 'Not for me currently.' So if he starts playing better in the future and we had like, i dunno, a bigger sample size then the assertion would still be correct. Mad innit?!? Personally i think Armstrong is going to be great and we haven't seen enough of Richards to say yet *not a footballing professional [Post edited 1 Nov 2022 16:43]

Tyler Roberts Missing Again on 16:42 - Nov 1 with 2848 views | dannyblue | Reading between the lines of what Beale said about him, his fitness might let us get some minutes out of him over the next few games...but we won't, because we don't want to risk the world cup for him. That's all very admirable and human. But it kind of adds to the feeling that we're doing him more favours than he's doing us, which also comes out in his body language and performances so far.

Thats the vibe i get too. I dont think we should start writing off fans opinions of footballers based on the fact we have never played professional football. We've all seen enough of footballers to get a rough idea of the type of character we see on a pitch. Obviously we don't know personal circumstances but purely on a professional level we can get a good idea.

I can rate the fact we are paying for a player who does not play half the time. It does not matter if he's a nice person. really unlucky, would happen at any other club, we are not a charity. We need players that can play and if we are paying them big monies (which for him we are) they need to improve the squad. Paal is a nice person, does not cost as much as Roberts in wages and can play the majority of games. Also, Paal has the same number of goals as Roberts, but way more assists. That's what happens when you play, you can improve your stats, if you don't play you cannot. Roberts job was to make us more dynamic and get more goals (as Dykes is on-off as we know). He has failed to provide what we needed as he does not play enough.

Compare him with some of our other players, Laird, Tim, Paal, Deing, etc and I am not sure he will be good enough for a Premier team on a regular basis - he may get a game or two but not a first Team regular. We will see but he will need to improve.
