Yeah, cos it's tradition, I'm continuing the matchday thread, but with no small measure of trepidation, despite my natural happy clappiness.
I'd feel a bit more confident without our increasing injury list. We're a plastic icebag on Charlie's knee from having to potentially recall a 19 year old from Torquay to join the match day squad as reserve striker. We're going through wingbacks at a careless rate.
And yet this squad (who are so lovely and are so brilliantly the right sort their wives are getting together to raise money for sick children plus our Tiger Cubs, (please donate here and support them if you can https://trustdraw.qpr.co.uk/))just deserve a bit more luck and to continue where they started the weekend fixtures in third. Assuming nothing insane happens in the last 2 minutes, we’ve been beaten by a better team today. We’ve given possession away for fun, been second to 50/50 challenges, outmatched all over the pitch.It’s been a bit worrying: even with the injuries, Johansen and Austin have consistently been miles below last season’s standard, and we’ve looked sluggish as team. At the same time, this stuff’s going to happen: we’re still a work in progress, we’ve not played terribly, and their keeper’s played superbly. Being in the playoff picture halfway through the season is a decent achievement, we just need to put this one behind us and kick on. |

warbs perhaps got the tactics wrong... kakay and field as wingbacks was a bit of a head scratcher... how did kakay get 90 mins today? lack of quality rly killed us
qpr seemed liveliest after we conceded the second goal... credit to them for not giving up but that effort shoudlve been on display earlier
amos had a nice cameo
finally, i said after the derby match that warbs was going to the well with adomah and wallace way too much... wingback is a young mans position and you cant expect both to keep running up and down the flanks and to stay healthy... why in the world wallace played 90 mins against luton (his first match back, esp when we were 2 goals ahead) is absolutely beyond me.... we paid the price today of going to the well too much with those guys as neither was available through injury
in a similar vein, warbs is making the same mistake with willock and chair... willock has not played af ull season of professional football yet (last year, he was a bit part player for large part of the year). why is he playing 90 mins every single match?
chair is 5'2 and also playing international football....
i think the biggest mistake that warbs made today was actually not taking off one of those two after we went down 2-0... we cannot keep running these guys to the ground, they need a break. i would rather let chair take 10 mins off in a lost cause match like today rather than lose him for a month bc of a muscle injury [Post edited 5 Dec 2021 16:30]

Not sure why we stayed with wingback when the line up was crying out for 4-3-3.
I also wonder if it's time to drop the wingback formation, any coincidence that McCallum, Odubajo, Wallace and now Adomah are frequently injured. We're now playing a CM out there which didn't work. |  |

Exactly this. It was calling for a different formation instead of shoe-horning a midfielder at LWB and a full-back to RWB. MW has made that mistake before. I understand that losses are part and parcel of the game but at least give yourself half a chance of winning by putting round pegs in round holes. |  | | |

Really missed having at least one proper wing back. Kakay did okay but you just know Albert would have come up with something a bit more special out there if he'd had the same amount of ball as Kakay had today. Field nowhere near Wallace's level at LWB. Hopefully we'll have at least one wing back available next week. Amos looked very good when he was on. Only one really winning tackles. Johansen and Dozzell both a bit disappointing today.
Fair play to Stoke though really well organised. Kept their shape, kept it simple and got their rewards. | | | |

we were in 3rd place coming into this weeks play playing with a wingback system
had chas converted that penalty, we easily couldve won the match
yes, the wingback system looked poor, but we were also without our first two choice wingbacks on eihter side....
i wouldnt change the system, i would just be smarter about how we use those players.... dont play wallace Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday .... | | | |

It's all good and well calling for a back four but Barbet has been largely useless when played at full back and Kakay not great at full back, certainly from an attacking point of view.
There are 4 players in the squad who can do a good job at wing back and they're all injured. That's pretty unfortunate. Hopefully they're all short term injuries as I'm not sure we'd be a great deal better if we went to a back four, especially given we don't really have any wingers either | | | |

I think Warbs is a bit gunshy to return to a back four given how we played with it in the first half of last year. We know how stubborn he can be with his systems.
Funnily enough, today’s match felt like one of those from last year. On top for good amounts of time in the beginning but can’t find a way in. Then, outdone by a simple counter where the opposition takes it chance. Get a golden opportunity in the form of a penalty that we totally fluff away. Fail to close on a ball carrier just outside the box who, again, takes his chance. Over 20 shots, over 15 corners, but no end product.

We were beaten by far the best team we have played this season
Even the tonking at Fulham I didn't think Fulham was that much better than us, Fulham just have the best striker in the league.
Stoke were really good today. Solid in defence and lively on the break and their keeper was immense
I thought we didn't play that badly, but just brought home how fragile our squad is.
Always upset when we lose, but can not be that bad a performance when their keeper was MOTM and we hade 15 odd corners and 20 odd shots

Nothing to do with the wingback system.
Stoke done a job on us today. Pacey forward, ball through and a goal. Only thing is that we haven't learned from it happening before.
On another day we put our chances away and the penalty and win the game. Have to chalk it off and go again. And we did have enough chances to win the game.
Thought the wing backs today were ok today. Not as good going forward as our normal wingbacks but ok. |  |

Pretty much agree with this. If Charlie smashes home that penalty, our tails are up and there's every chance we go on to win the game. He didn't and that knocked the wind out of our sails. Austin penalty miss felt like the turning point. We were all over them at the start of the second half and the penalty miss killed our momentum.
That said, we had enough chances to win even after the penalty miss. 23 efforts on goal in total. But our goal scoring run was always going to come to an end at some point. On to the next game. |  | | |

Fine margins really. So on top of the game (75/25%) when they scored 0-1. Then we capitulated into a complete mess. CA, Penalty - arrogant useless attempt. Put your laces through it you absolute melt. No matter, we love you anyway, but get to 1-1 we win. Not to be.
Stoke GK was outstanding, as was ours with an 8/10 performance, well done Seny.
The rest? No one deserves more than a 5, that's generous for some.
