Started the BC one, so here's hoping for a similar result.

We're quite strong favourites for this one - Even money with Paddy P.

I'll go for 2-0 Johansson and Chair to score

Typical inconsistency, never got going, whereas against Wycombe we got in front and could manage the game. In this one, Huddersfield looked a lot more confident and took their chance. Agree with Andy Sinton on his analysis in 2nd half we were playing far too deep in our own half, just never really got out. Also not able to exploit wing back positions. I do feel we are able to play more effectively on bigger away pitches and exploit wing backs more, Loftus Road is so tight and we seem to not be as effective unless we move the ball quickly, through the midfield, today we failed on both counts.

Is tiredness an excuse? too many games in quick succession?

I don't think so-these are professional footballers and should be able to cope with it, it's what they do for a living.

I'm not sure about tiredness - didn't seem to affect Wycombe, who lifted themselves to win today following defeat (obv.) in the week. I guess Hudders have had more of a break but there's not much in it - its a slog for all 24 teams at the moment.

I think it was just a bad, irritating, day at the office which shows getting to the 'Promised Land' of top-half (12th) will not be easy.

Very disappointing result that, but that's what we are used to. One minute we are looking up, the next we are looking down. It's the life of being a Ranger I'm afraid.

Cannot wait to hear MW explain that dire performance.

I get we have let a lot of good players go and probably punched above our weight this season, but that performance coupled with Barnsley and Birmingham recently should have the alarm bells going off!

Same old problem with MW in that no plan B is available. It was fecking Huddersfield we played. Speechless.

You need to let this no plan b stuff go. It was a tongue in cheek comment he made a long time ago. Last season we played expressive football at the trade off of a solid defence. This year we started the same then pivoted to a more defensive approach when it was not working. We've played 4 at the back and 5 as the back, 2 up top and 1 up top. We've done passing, we have gone more direct. High press, no high press.

Not sure what what would constitute flexibility in tactics or "a plan B" if it's not the above?

Don't know Ted. I think that much rest in this mental season gives a team a bit of an edge. Kakay looked so much fresher to me than some of those around him - Charlie for example.

Not an excuse for the result, more of a significant factor imho, and we should have done better. Too early to call Huddersfield a bogey team I suppose but they had our number.

Fatigue is a perfectly valid factor. We've done a number on sides after having had our enforced rests too. That's why when you've 35 minutes of circling the drain in front of you (looked out of ideas even before they scored) and it just so happens you can switch out up to half the side you maybe might want to consider it.

Even that in itself is a second bite of the cherry. Our most recent run of form petered out the same way, we freshened up the side a bit against Bristol C, looked the business, and now we've run it down again. Maybe the loading science is saying it's physically doable but the mental toll is clear to see - when it's going well adrenaline sees us through, first setback we get we collapse.

Barnsley are young, fit as butchers dogs, and still rotate en masse every time to play the most demanding physical game in the division. Now look at their subs. Three at half time yesterday (down 1-2, won 3-2), three on 57" vs Derby, two at HT and another at 58" vs Birmingham, three at 56" vs us, two at HT vs Millwall, and so it continues. Consistently at least 10 and often 20 minutes before we get tend to get round to it.

Presumably our thinking or instinct is that earlier flux would destabilise our game. But we have an old saying that's been handed down by generations of roadsweepers... look after your broom. Are we sure we haven't enough heads and handles to do the job?

It would be true to say we've complained on here about settled sides/imposing our game and game management/responsiveness about equally though so...

It's not just 8 days rest it's several days preparation time. They know how to stop us, they did it very effectively in December. The gap beteen games gave them all the time they needed to prepare for us. They were well drilled.

They were well drilled, but at their own game I'm pretty sure. Might be wrong but it didn't seem like they tailored something special just for us.

They played one between the the defence and midfield, as Brum did to good effect. It's the area we want to play in and where Charlie currently drops into. He was really struggling for space and wasn't helped by the fact he had a really bad game. Windy an all that, but he struggled to get the ball under control, or hit really poor passes for much of the game - and he knew it, you could hear him scream at himself every time he did it. Part of Charlie's new role is to feed the other pair and without him getting on the ball in those areas we struggled. On another day we might have been fine, but it's not helped when he wastes the limited opportunities he gets. One of those days for him and us, and well done Huddersfield. Can take that one on the chin as they're a decent side (ravaged by injuries this year) with what could be a good young manager in the making. At least it was a football match, compared with Barnsley...
