Derby County midweek bonus game match thread 08:17 - Nov 4 with 28354 views | stevec | Our boys like Saturdays, particularly 3pm Saturdays. 10 points and no defeats. Must be pay day but no matter, we like it. What we don’t like is Monday to Friday, or the dark. No wins, no points. Time to redeem yourselves. 1-1 draw and something on the board at last. Please.

Derby County midweek bonus game match thread on 22:03 - Nov 4 by Hunterhoop | Dickie superb. Found the second half intensely frustrating because of how sloppy we were in possession and how we seemed to lack the urgency and drive to get a winner. Then upped stepped Dickie to step in and create the winner. I think Derby were dreadful and the worst side we’ve played. We can bee so much better. But great to get the win. Those are the games you need to win when the oppo is so bad. |
Agree not too sure how much we can take from this result as in the future However thought we kept our shape throughout and deserved the win. I don't know if you get to many away games Hunter but that was a good away performance for me. One I'd liked to have been at. With Pubs before and after! Youuuu Rsssss

Aside from his honours as a player he's won the Eredivisie 3 times as manager of PSV. Maybe that's easier than working with Derby.

Derby County midweek bonus game match thread on 22:24 - Nov 4 with 1387 views | EmpireStateRanger | What’s really encouraging is that Warbs has proven he can halt a losing skid before it becomes disastrous. When Holloway, JFH and Stevie suffered a 2-3 losses in a row, it eventually became 5-6-7 losses. That hasn’t really happened under Warbs. We did only gain 4 points in 7 before the Cardiff breakthrough, but we still got some good draws and were introducing so many new players to the squad.

Super stuff and back in our rightful place of 16th.* *Yes, yes, I know we've only ever finished 16th once in our entire history, it's just a bit of fun and we have been in and around 16th throughout the season quite a bit recently.

Secondly these are the sort of results that see a team in the top half of a division, takes discipline and professionalism. None at the minute! But used to get to a few. 10-12 a season 5 years ago. Done about 50 league grounds down. Certainly be up for Derby and The Brunswick Inn with Everards on tap! Beautiful beer. It was an alright performance. But we were sloppy and should have won comfortably. I really think we are a much better side than Derby (and better than a lot of sides in this league) but our execution at the business end of the pitch can be infuriating. As can this repeated pattern of us always starting second halves slowly and letting teams get on top of us, especially when we've been the better side in the first half. We have to start second halves better. I really think this league is weak and if we can consistently play at 70% or better of our potential we'll be top half. Cut down the volume of stupid mistakes at the back, and get slightly sharper in the final third and we'll see a big swing in results.

Derby County midweek bonus game match thread on 22:09 - Nov 4 by terryb | A very composed performance & a deserved win. I was about to swear at Dickie for not playing the ball to the right & then he delivered it perfectly for Bonne! The whiole defence defended well & I can't remember a mistake from Dickie or Barbet. Behind them Dieng commanded his area & made two good/very good saves in the first half. We did go off the boil for a bit of the second half & i got a little edgy, but our defence didn't! Very pleasing, but I'm too awake now! |
Agree with the composed observation, didn't think it was a bad game either.

I see us at almost a quarter of the way into the season with an awful lot of new players to 'bed in' As things stand I'm happy with the way things are going, it takes time and we're still not playing for 90 minutes that's how I see it anyway. I'd like to see a bit more of Willock though.

Agreed, Ted. Willock plays with his head up and can spot a pass. He has pace and balance and has exciting potential.

Lucky to escape a yellow -6 Niko - Quiet calm and effective 7 Barbet - rarely troubled, but equally rarely in the thick of it - 6 Dickie - best performance in a QPR shirt so far - and capped it off with an assist -8 Carroll - clever with and without the ball -7 Adomah - threatening going forward 1st half. Taken off at right time -6 Cameron -solid in front of the back four -6 Chair - buzzing around, a constant threat -7 BOS - Dangerous when on the ball - less affective 2nd half and picked up a knock -6 Dykes - worked his socks off, but should have scored. Taken off at right time -6 Ball - renewed energy in the middle of the park and wrestled control back from Derby -6 Bonne - looked lively even before he scored and took his goal with aplomb -7 Willock - insufficient time to earn a rating Warburton - good game plan, well executed by the players and made substitutions at the right time as Derby were starting to get a foothold on the game, albeit without really threatening. Much maligned at times, but does a decent job in difficult circumstances -8

interesting Myke. I thought Willock was very, very good when he came on. Used it well very calm, should have set Chair up after a great run, but gave us something extra and popped up everywhere from left wing to right back. Well worthy of at least a 6 rating. Cautiously excited by him - guess he may play sat as BOS looks like he's done his groin. Bonus points for use of aplomb ;)

Fair enough Antti. Bit of distraction going on around me at home (two phones ringing simultaneously,, both looking for me) just after Willock came on, which mercifully had settled down before we scored. So I may have bottled his rating. Will likely be Bright's replacement sooner or later, so good to have him on board.

Derby County midweek bonus game match thread on 23:57 - Nov 4 with 1684 views | ManinBlack | So good to see us win away on Sky as that doesn't happen very often. I think we have two London Derby away fixtures on Sky coming up so I hope we will be up for them and be solid in defence like tonight. I am not sure what to make of Derby as they seem to be losing all their home games and drawing all their away games. Preston are another curiosity, losing at will at home but winning away without any hassle. It seems both are missing home support to spur them on but away from home are boosted by the home team having no fans. Covid affected performances and results... Now onto Blackburn where we consistently lose by one goal margins. Can we now end this as they seem to have lost their way a bit recently?

Broadly agree, Myke, and agree with all of your observations as well. My take: Dieng 8 - fine save from Rooney (though weakly hit he was quick to it) and great handling again in the air. Kane 7 - I thought he won his duel with Lawrence. Barbet 7 - agreed (much better positioning from him today, rarely broke the line. Dickie 8 - Not far off 9. He's now beginning to roam from his position to stop danger which is mental bravery and true leadership (if it's done intelligently, which it is at the moment). Heading from defensive set pieces immense. Niko 7 - Best showing yet. Continues to improve. Cameron 6 - Solid defensively which allowed Carroll to be the playmaker. Carroll 8 - I thought this was his best game yet. Hugely involved, long balls, short balls, movement, prompting. No assists and no goals, so 8 is as far as I'd go. But very encouraging, and let's leave it at that. Adomah 7 - Just waiting to burst out. Class. Chair 7 - Mixed the good and the bad. But my God we're better with him at 10. BOS 6 - I think he carried that knock into the game. Still dangerous. Hope he's not out for long. Dykes 5 - Tough day for him. Bullied early on and didn't convince the ref and didn't overcome his man. He needs to learn from that. In his defence he looks tired from the step-up. I still like him and I think he'll be a good player. Subs: Ball 6 - Not sure why he's not in the team. I think he will be in time. Changed the tempo when he came on. Helped to protect that wing for Niko. Bonne 7 - Held the ball up better than Dykes by moving away from the foul, so more effective tonight. And then the goal. Willock 7.5 - This lad has it. Passing is on the money, can dribble, plays with his head up, has vision, dribbling, long passing. Tackled, covered back. Excellent addition. Warburton 9 - Played his first team, controlled the match bar the third quarter, early subs changed that. Deserved the win, I thought but even a 0-0 draw up there would have been well earned.

I mentioned BOS had a groin injury a couple of weeks ago stretching for a ball. But it was over shadowed by those who went full "Contract t00ser". He had treatment Saturday on the pitch as like he did tonight. Trust me i`ve rubbed my groin enough to know when it`s time to ease off. There`s only so much she`ll take. [Post edited 5 Nov 2020 1:50]
