Is it just me or was guy Fawkes night more popular than Halloween when I was younger. How many of you can remember baby showers. When did drinks become skinny drinks. Another bit of American language that annoys me is when people say can I get. Short rant over

I could also add the use of 'invite' instead of 'invitation'; 'I guess', 'kinda', 'awesome' and a few others. I feel like I'm one of the few people still speaking 1990s UK English. I'm a true wonder of nature.

And the over use of the word 'super'

The problem is it's all sh1t and is ruining the language and making the youth of today lazy with words and spelling.

It's all the fault of that Brexit fellow, don't you know?

Had no choice but to turn away a prospective client a couple of weeks ago, when he described our telephone conversation as an attempt to "reach out".

Prick!

Something else that irritates me is when a difficult conversation is about to take place or some serious news is about to be relayed it's not unusual to hear 'here's a thing' as a preamble. It's not a thing.

I'm sure this thread comes up every year followed by everyone's favourite Americanism.

Black Friday is crap though, for all the endless emails I've been getting this month, I'm still to see one deal that's actually decent.

I've been looking at getting a new PC recently as mine died last month (is about 10 years old now) and have been looking all month and none of the supposed Black Friday prices are any better then they were 4 weeks ago. FACT.

I work for a US company so I should be inured to these Americanisms but unfortunately, they still drive me mad. However, it's unfair of me to have a go when Americans are using US English because that sort of usage is appropriate to the situation. I need to just get over myself.

What really gets my goat is lazy UK retailers and broadcasters who treat us lot in the UK as if we are some sort of US overseas territory, foisting completely inappropriate Americanisms on us. Black Friday, trick or treat, we'll keep you across XY and Z, vacations . I even heard a UK radio ad promoting "motorcycle pants" and no, they did not mean leather y fronts, they meant trousers for bikers.

RFA

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

So 1 day after Americans make a holiday out of giving thanks for what they have, they all go out to try to kill each other for things they probably don't even need.
No thanks.
