Saints Launch New Bid "In Last Few Hours " ! Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 09:36 Saints are being reported as having raced to the front of the queue to sign a much in demand striker after submitting a new bid.
Media sources in Italy say Southampton have shot to the front of the queue to sign Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini.
Initial reports were saying that West Brom had bid 20 million euros for the 25 year old, but they had been struggling to raise the cash and need to sell players first before they can sign the Italian.
Saints though are coming in on the rails and in the past few hours have put in a bid of 18 million euros plus 2 miliion in add ons, whilst this is not as favourable to the Italian club as the West Brom bid, it isn't far off and Saints have the ability to pay now without selling players.
Gabbiadini has been linked with several Premier League clubs aside from West Brom and although the Italian media say Saints are favourites there is a long way to go before the striker makes his mind up where his destination will be.

I'm really hoping that this rumour is just media and/or agent speculation. Obviously Saints do their homework and rarely sign players who prove to be errors of judgement but I still believe that there are better players for similar or less money potentially available.

I was thinking as I wrote this that Juanmi might have been ideal under Claude Puel, nippy and fast with a footballing brain, ok the physical side was tougher for him, but Puel's style relies less on hustle and bustle than Koeman's and Juanmi might have suited it well

Sadly Nick it looks as though Juanmi's career is going from bad to worse at present. Only started a few games in Spain and scored three league goals since he left us last summer. I agree that his technical ability and even his attitude was good but the frustration of watching him play made our current group of forward players look almost exhilerating by comparison. Take your point that Puel would have liked him but I actually think Sims has more to offer at present.

He didn't look strong enough and there was very little to suggest he had what it takes regardless of who our manager is.

We should at buy at least two strikers: Saido Berahino on the cheap (since his contract will expire soon), Christian Benteke and Michy Batshuayi on loan! Get rid of Jay Rod, Redmond, Long and JWP. All of these players should be ashamed of themselves this season! For all his faults and inconsistencies Mane delivered when it mattered! We needed a win and they didn't deliver and now we're looking over the shoulder of a potential relegation battle.

Sanchez looks like he wants to leave the Gunners.......I know we can't afford him.....but Les will say he's not the right type of player to fit our system!

Saints need a striker of course. Long works hard but his technique and finishing are abysmal. The significant subsidiary problem is the lack of goals from midfield. JWP has, as far as I am aware, only ever scored one goal from open play. That is a disgrace but hardly surprising from someone who only ever passes sideways or backwards. Given the fact that he can't tackle either it raises serious questions about how he ever gets in the team. Sooner or later people will have to realise that the poster-boy for the academy is a lightweight liability. And don't get me started on Redmond....

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Preston North End Polls |
