Yes. The forensic science service were generally trusted to make their own decisions about the extent to which an item shoud be examined. Cost and time implication meant that they invariably screened and tested obvious blood stains and staines identified in targeted areas of an item of clothing.
The relevant blood stain in this case was found on the rear collar area of Gary Dobsons jacket, not an obvious area to test under the circumstances. I'm sure that it would only have been subsequently, following a forensic review, and with all the highlevel of publicity, that a decision would have been made to re examine all the jacket and the evidence then coming to light.
Forensic science is fantastic but you still have humans carrying out the tests and humans make errors of judgement.

Some interesting points made on question time last night. Norris's father was a known drug smuggler and rumours were that he knew a number of police officers on the case and potentially "bought" them. Also a lot of questions were raised about racism in the force.
I've no idea whether if it was a racially motivated attack or if Stephen Lawrence sold drugs, but an 18 year old was stabbed to death by a group of teenagers while standing at a bus stop.
To suggest you are sick of all the coverage on a case that has fundementally changed the way police investigations are carried out is, quite frankly, unbeliveable.

As a result the Double Jeopardy law was changed so the Mets useless performance in cases of racist, homophobic and sexual assault crimes could be perhaps addressed if new evidence was found.
The Lawrence family finally had to bring a private court case against the boys.
The Acourt family and the father in particular is known in the area as a career criminal and carries a reputation for violence. There are rumours of Police complicity.
This Case failed and the case went cold. As a result of a anniversary of the case/crime a standard cold case review took place. With new DNA testing technology possibly new evidence could be found and on the basis that the smallest amount of DNA can now be traced all the original evidence was minutely inspected with microscopes...Hey Presto. The sadness is that the Met at the time have photos of the boys removing black bin bags just after the crime from their flat and the surveillance team did nothing.
The Met knew these fella's committed this crime and did nothing, either deliberately for racist reasons or for racist reasons combined with being a little too close to the Acourt Family.
Holloway you should be nothing less than ashamed of yourself and i feel sorry for you...read some of those books in your Library and ask your employers for a document outlining policy towards minorities. As you work for the council there will be a person who can help...bit like a plumber but wearing sandals.
