It’s the last game of the Group A qualifiers and Wales play away again, this time in Rome against Italy. The Azzurri are flying higher than the Aeronautica Militare over a soft target on a Tuesday morning. The reversal of any vehicle especially a stereotypical Alfa Romeo won’t stop this game going ahead. Greenpeace haven’t any grudges against Mark Drakeford as far as we know and Mario Draghi continues to excel at being a ‘right’ banker.

Italy won their first two games against Switzerland and Turkey 3-0. They are the first country to qualify for the last sixteen of this years Euros. Wales have drawn against Switzerland and beat Turkey 2-0. The latter a convincing and exciting display of attacking football. If Wales avoid defeat they will qualify in second place for the last sixteen, if they win, they win the group, if they are defeated and Switzerland win the Swiss have to turn around a five goal difference.
It isn’t over yet.
As you know Swansea Independent is an educational website encouraging learning at all levels. By the time you have finished this Matchday thread you will know the entire Italian sign language alphabet.
There you go. It’s not all stereotypes though, we’ve said this before, Birmingham in that England is named after spaghetti, and has a series of roads named after it. There are some rough neighbourhoods in Italy, these are called Spaghetto’s, talking of which - in Napoli a few years ago the police were ‘right’ pizza tossers. The currency in Italy is now the euro which replaced the pasta note in about 1996 or before.

We were fortunate Mancini saw it as an opportunity to let the Italian second string get some minutes in the competition and wasn't determined to score as many goals as they could.
If I was a Swiss supporter I would be very angry. Alas, Wales are through which is a tremendous achievement.

They kicked Bale all game, there was a worse foul on one of our players, before that Italian player ran across Joe gaining a foul and a Yellow card for Joe, ridiculous, Red for Ampadu's foul you see most game's, it was a fair decision for me, but we should see more Red's for that type of foul and I think there was a similar one earlier in the game, can't remember if it was for us or Italy. |  |

I think anyone moaning about that needs to look again. Italy are by far th better team and even with 8 changes and a flurry of changes late on they were so obviously the better team on the day.
We did very well to hold out for 1 nil, it was a massive effort, even if I did disagree with 1 or 2 selections and subs but why do I know better, in tournamment football the ends justifies the means, you don't get several more chances like you do in league football.
Wales tournament record, all things taken into account, is very, very good and we move on to another game where we have a decent chance.
If we were a bit lucjy, so what? We've had plenty of bad luck oiver the years...Jordan's handball anyone? Lets enjoy it while it lasts and be proud that people are talking of Wales for all the right reasons. |  |

My first thought without checking the rankings was also Russia first choice for Wales then Finland but I don't want Denmark.
On checking the World rankings Finland are ranked 54 in the World, Russia 38, we are 17, Denmark are 10 in the World, out of interest Italy are 7 and the Swiss were 13 and the Turks 29.
So on ranking we should beat Finland or Russia but not Denmark and if we get through to the quarters and play the Dutch, they have a ranking of 16 compared to our 17.
On paper Wales have a chance of making the semis again. |  |

Another manager set up to not lose.
Another manager who bets on Bale and Ramsey producing one effective move. TBF Ramsey did some defensive work but otherwise was a waste of a shirt.
Once they scored and Ampadu saw red Italy cruised it and even then we can thank the woodwork, Rodon and Ward for keeping the score down
The ref was pretty good, Ampadu''s challenge was late high and dangerous and red was correct, I didn't see Italy as dirty or cynical.
As for being second … pure luck, with the woodwork in our games and the Swiss' getting us that position.
In 2016 we progressed largely through our own abilities, sound tactics and having a passionate beast of a captain who made sure every player worked their socks off.
Why Cabago isn't playing is a mystery. He consistently out-rates Mepham on independent stats sites and is more of a leader.

Wales has a team of players,most of whom are 2nd/3rd choice at their club.The star players are well past their best ,as a result of that.
God knows whom Ward plays against for a living but I thought he was pretty good .
That we are even able to stand toe to toe with a massively talented football nation like Italy is pretty impressive.
Page is simply standing in for the Salford 1.
It's all about how and when we are knocked out now.
