The way infection rates are going locally, another lockdown is the only way.

I must say, it feels like we are in lockdown now with all the pubs shut, it's very similar to the firebreak, although I think that included non-essential shops.. I just can't keep up with it.

In the firebreak things were closed that I thought made no difference to infection levels . Things like shops, gyms and cafés . We were also told to stay at home but that made absolutely no difference because nowhere was open anyway. People were still going to work, certainly more than in the spring lockdown, so the virus was still spreading at least to a greater extent than the spring. Then everything opened again with far less restrictions than when they closed and everyone went crazy. The shops were packed with two weeks worth of shoppers and group's of mate's met in pubs that hadn't been allowed to meet for about 6 weeks. Cafés, restaurants and gyms were full. The upshot is that we're in a terrible situation that will take weeks to get out of. I can see major restrictions until the end of January.

Interestingly I spoke to my step daughter today who has just recovered from covid. She caught if from her boyfriend who believes he caught if from the gym.

That is exactly why I believe we need a long term plan, not 2 weeks or a month but maybe even a 3 month plan. People use the last days before and the first days after as an excuse to go berserk. It undoes any of the good and may even cause more cases than may have been without the firebreak/short lockdown. Gething also said it would be stupid to say they wouldn't have further restrictions didn't he? Shame the Senedd were so set on 2 weeks and refused to contemplate extending it no matter what.

I walked passed the local social club at about 5:30pm last Friday and it looked packed. I fully expect us to hit a peak of new infections perfectly timed for Christmas hospitalisation, which will peak again from the middle of January. I honestly think that the WG were acting on orders from Starmer regarding the two week lockdown. It was too short, too deep and too late. I also think we've gone down the "no alcohol" rule just to be different from England. It's all down to politics.

Does Draker listen to Starmer? If he did it's been a mistake. I think they've lined Christmas up to be a disaster, I hope I'm wrong. They should revoke the 3 family rule no and set new rules that take us through into the new year or even into February.

I assume he listened to, or told to, by Starmer. It's just too much of a coincidence that Starmer called on Johnson to introduce a firebreak (as SAGE had called for one previously) with the only UK Labour administration following a couple of weeks later for it not to be a Starmer call. I think it could have worked if it had been introduced earlier in the Autumn. It was obviously too little too late, especially with the free for all that followed.

Obviously a pub not doing what they need to so get a second closure notice from Dec 4th to Dec 18th. Brilliant. It is closed anyway. It's places like this that cause problems for those trying to do their bit. Their closure should be for months not weeks and they should have a massive fine. I'm sure the plough in Llangyfelach got forced to pay about £50k for showing dodgy sky sports. Sort of puts it in perspective really.

I agree with you, but the hospitality sector doing their bit is not enough. I'ts all well and good measures in place for sanitation, social distancing, masks ect, but if you let people fill themselves up with beer there is no control when they walk out the door.

That's why I said maybe close places like Wind street and tell local pubs to limit people to 2/3 drinks. Not perfect I know and people will still get around it but surely they can come up with something? Otherwise, as long as stupid people keep breaking the rules there is no choice I guess but to keep pubs closed. Maybe shops need to stop selling alcohol too. A hard sanction but until the vaccine is widely distributed something has to happen to counter gross stupidity! That's what irks me, if people were just more sensible there' be no need to close pubs. We make our own problems then complain about it.

People are stupid. I heard today about a bloke who went back to work in the DVLA on the morning he received a positive test result. Putting the rest of his team into self isolation for two weeks. What a moron.

Supermarkets etc. Any longer and the risk was losing the public. Then Johnson went later and only when he had no choice. Nobody can really argue that Drakeford went too late. You can argue it was not long enough. You can argue it it was too uncontrolled when we had to exit. Unfortunately another welsh lockdown is now inevitable.

When you think about it, another lockdown is madness, considering the previous measures don't look to have worked.. Lock down pubs, restaurants gyms, non essential.. and others.. IMO the way it's spreading is through household transmission, friends mixing, household's mixing, which is an impossibility to enforce..

I think older kids in schools, quite possibly, as it seems clear that younger kids don't spread it. The other place is in work. Neither of which we can close long-term. It's madness for households to mix but loads do and will over the next few weeks

The problem in schools is that they make kids wear masks in corridors when they are only in fleeting contact and not in classroooms where they are for most of the day. Same in workplaces. It is longer contact that causes the spread. Houses, schools, pubs, offices where people are close for long periods not passing someone on the street or in the supermarkets. A number of times different PHW experts have commented that at 2 metre distance you need to be next to someone for 15 minutes to catch it whilst at 1 metre you catch it within a minutes.

Umm, Drakers went earlier but not for long enough and now look? When Bojo did go he went for a month and that's why English numbers are better than Wales. He wouldn't have lost the public, that's just making excuses for his uselessness. Now we'll have another lockdown and we'll see the same stupidity before and fter that will render it worthless unless we go longer term. Do you support the 3 family bubble? That's something we can't afford in Wales with out numbers accelerating. A for Brexit, we seem to have struck a deal on Northern Ireland border checks, well done wouldn't you say?

Of course younger kids spread it, they are just smaller. they have the same physiology and anatomy as adults have, they just don't get sick with it and don't get tested either

Well the science is clear that isn't the case. So, physiologically, a 3 year old's lung and exhale volume is the same as a 16 year old?

We dont yet know the result of England coming out of lockdown. It is too early to say. There was a report yesterday saying the English figures are beginning to rise also but weeks behind ours. Hopefully they wont act as foolishly as the Welsh have. As far Johnson dont you think he is being foolish in allowing fans into stadia. Putting 4000 in somewhere is more likely to spread than 3 families in 1 house. I agree with you totally on the 3 families and also 4 people in pubs which is also absolutely stupid. Overall Drakeford has got more things right than Johnson in this pandemic. Was far more cautious than Johnson and today on GMTV Gove has admitted they didnt follow the science unlike Drakeford did.

It's not the same volume of course, but it doesn't need to b to transmit tint particles. Please don't give us the science is clear as they are learning as they go along and still don't know very much about the virus
