Pompey: Nobody has got away from us Saturday, 13th Feb 2021 20:46 by pompey-fans.com staff Kenny Jackett is backing Pompey to keep pace with the League One leaders - and will be heartened by the way a number of them are dropping points. With the Blues' trip to Crewe a victim of wintry weather, Jackett would have sat back and seen Hull, Doncaster and Charlton all fall to defeat on Saturday. That will have strengthened Pompey's hopes of pushing for a top two finish but the boss knows his own side have to forget what their rivals are doing and be relentless themselves in their performances and results. Speaking before the Crewe game was frozen off he told the club websiite: 'We’re confident in what we’re doing and want to keep pace with the sides at the top if we possibly can. 'Nobody’s got away from us yet and we’ve got seven points out of nine since those Hull and Lincoln defeats, but you need to keep up that level. Three teams will go up into the Championship and, ultimately they’ll be the ones that deserve it most. 'It’s a really good division and last season you had teams like Sunderland and Ipswich not even in the top six. his time around there are 8-10 sides who it’s opened up for — and we’re one of them, so we need a big push. 'I do think we’re capable of that with the squad we’ve got here. There’s a good spirit around them and they have to be selfless as we drive towards the end of the campaign.' Pompey are next in action at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night. The Gas suffered a late call-off of their home game on Saturday, unhappy at the ref's decision the pitch was unfoit.
