Marathon Walk
at 21:20 19 Feb 2024

Clive feel free to remove

Dear Loft for Worders

I would like to let you all know that I am doing a marathon distance 42 km charity walk on the 18th May in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. The walk should take 10 – 12 hours.

I have been inspired to take this on through my friend Mark (LfW poster Kingshill) but also for my own personal reasons. A link to the just giving page is below. It would wonderful if you could donate a few pounds:

https://www.justgiving.com/page/mark-sellick-1705515029382?newPage=true

But before you do that please read on for a little bit of background:

Mark’s story:

Mark and Joyce were married for 30 years, they have two children aged 24 & 26, Joyce was 54 last birthday. Five months ago Joyce died of Pancreatic Cancer having under gone two rounds of chemo and two remissions.

My Story:

Irene and Bert (my mum and dad obvs!!) were married for 26 years, they had three children, just after her 48 birthday Irene was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She died 10 months later. That was 1984. There was no treatment for Pancreatic cancer at that time. I was 17. Forty years later this still pains me.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.

Please help me and Mark help other families like ours.

Here the link again:

If you are able to spare a few pounds please do leave your user name and reference Tony or Mark as there are several of us doing the walk and we are using the same just giving page and I would like to thank you individually.

Finally, just to make the 42km a little more challenging some of you will know that I have had a foot injury for the last few years that has left me with constant pain. Therefore, I have thought very hard whether I will be able to do this. But WTF, I can always hop.

Car Insurance
at 13:01 3 Oct 2023

My 20 year old daughter passed her driving test today. She has already bought a 1.2 ltr Fiesta. Value about £1000

Now she has a full license she can insure the car in her name. Got a first quote via moneysupermarket. Only gave one quote for £7500!!! Got a second quote from Gogirl who specialise in female drivers for £14k. Any bright ideas?

The Mysterious 8.
at 08:43 7 Sep 2023

In another thread the topic has turned to what players the development team has produced suitable for the first team.

This has been an argument since Warburton and one of the mitigation points Ferdinand offered was that (around) eight players had been whisked away by Premier League/ Cat A teams.

Does anyone know who any of these players are which teams they went to and most importantly what are they doing now? Have we really missed out on eight super stars or have they all drifted away to lower leagues or sat in U23 teams?

Gait Analysis
at 12:31 22 May 2023

And not the garden type!!

I've had foot problems for a few years that have required surgery ect.

The problems haven't really gone away so I was advised to do a full gait analysis. This is where they stick sensors down you back and video you walking / running as well as walking on a pressure pad so they can see your foot loading.

Well I got the results today. Basically it appears I'm falling apart. For starters I have one leg shorter than the other (who knew!!) As well as foot pronation, muscle wastage and hip misalignment. Apparently this can all be help by the use of shoe inserts and specialist physio.

My question is whether anyone else and had this done and did the physio and inserts work? Or is this a very good way of getting me to spend 1000's pounds on very expensive treatment, inserts and shoes?

Lombok & Gili Islands
at 16:04 14 Oct 2022

Thinking about a family trip to Lombok and Gili Islands next year. I went there 30 odd years ago as a scruffy backpacker. There wasn't much more than bamboo cottages and magic mushrooms. Has anyone been more recently? Any recommendations places to stay, eat or visit? Is it still worth a visit?

Sheff Utd Away

I am thinking about going to the Sheffield Utd game. Looking at the train times the last one back departs at 22.15 and is via Doncaster. Gets back to King X at 1.30.

Can you get from the ground to the station in time. Is this the best route back or does any have better suggestions.

Streaming Matches
at 15:43 7 Sep 2020

Can anyone explain the process for streaming the games if you are a season ticket holder. At the end of last season we were emailed a code and watched the games via QPR+. Now I think you have to use the iFollow link. Is that right and have any access codes been issued?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere ☺️🙂

Another reason to hate Luton
at 13:12 5 Sep 2020

My best mates son is making his debut for Norwich today in their game with Luton. Only 19 years old. Hopefully the start of a long and illustrious career. Shame Covid means his parents can't be there but we will all be round their house watching it on a dodgy stream.

Good luck to the boy and another reason to detest the Luton pikeys.

French West Coast
at 14:09 15 Jul 2020

Hi all,

Like many of us I am looking at some options to take the family away in mid August. Looking at all the various travel restrictions and not wanting to be stuck in a plane for several hours I am thinking of driving over to France.

Ideally I would like to go to Ile de Re but I can't get any accomdation there. So can anyone suggest a specific town / resort that is on the beach in that general area. I don't want to go too much further south as the drive gets too much

All advice welcome

Belize - Anyone been?
at 16:12 26 Jan 2020

It's that time of year again where I post my annual group chat on some obscure place I might try and visit in the summer

This year it's Belize. Wanted to go to central America for years and thought Belize would be a good place start as I think it is reasonably safe, affordable and English is widely spoken.

Has anyone been? What is you general opinion. What are the top places to visit and to stay or things to do. Plan to travel around a bit so any advice on buses / tours etc would be great.

Thanks

Rhodes - The island not the chef...
at 09:42 21 May 2019

Off to Greece in the summer and plan to spend four night on Rhodes.

Any recommendations for a specific beach / resort / town to stay in or any good hotels / apartments?

Finally other than sitting by the beach / pool what are the best things to do / see / eat?

The only place I have heard of is Falaraki which I believe is 18-25 central, we are a family of five, so night clubs to 5.00am are no longer my thing!

As always thanks for any advice

Nothern Spain
at 10:18 22 Jan 2019

Its that time of year again when I'm looking at holidays. With the success last year with Vietnam info (thanks HanoiR) I thought I would try again.

This year we are looking closer to home. The plan is to drive over to either southern France or northern Spain. At the moment I am thinking of taking the ferry into Bilbao or Santander.

From there I have no real clue. Any advice on towns, beaches or villages that are a must do?? Any good hotels, apartments or Airbnb you would recommend? Any info on local rock climbing activity would also be great?

We are a family of five plus the bloody dog that apparently now has to come on holiday as well!!

Vietnam
at 12:18 18 Apr 2018

Following from the thread on Cuba and the fact that there is not much football to talk about I thought I would follow the holiday theme.

I plan to visit Vietnam in August. Rough itinerary it Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang and finishing in HCMC.

Are there any must do things to see, do, eat, try or places to stay or any locations I really should visit instead of the above? Any recommended trips or tours or good travel agencies to work with?

Working for HSBC

I have just been offered a job with HSBC at Canary Wharf. I have never worked in the financial sector. Has anyone worked for them? What is the culture like as it comes across as long hours and a bit hire and fire. Is that true? Appreciate any views?

On line ticketing
at 21:32 20 Sep 2017

Can anyone give me some advice on the online ticketing.? When I tried to log in it did not recognise my old log in so I created a new one. I then could not link it to my existing season ticket number, so it will not let me buy tickets in the upper loft as it does not recognise me as a member. I have spent the last hour at this but now given up. All I want is two ticket for the Burton game. No wonder our gates are so low if this is how hard it is to buy a ticket

What happens next...
at 20:29 8 Mar 2014

Starting today we have a run of seven winnable games. Ok we have struggled to pick up points off the other top six clubs but we have been pretty good against the rest. Of the next batch of seven only Forest and Leicester are up with us.

Add to this the chance that Charlie may return in a few weeks, what's the chances we can win 10 - 12 of the remaining 14 games??

36 points in the run is gives us 96 and auto promotion. Have I been smoking too much??

West Coast USA
at 23:05 27 Feb 2014

Building on a thread on holidays in east coast USA I thought I would ask the crowds' advice on West Coast.

I plan to travel in August for 3-4 weeks with the wife and 3 kids.

I have a list of main places LA, San Fran, Vegas and Grand Canyon.

What I am after is some advice on more unusual places to stay, places to visit, things to do. Also best way to tour, hire a car, a camper van, flights and public transport.

Finally any places to absolutely avoid.

Thanks in advance.....
