After a little more thought, I think having one forum would be catastrophic given the deep-rooted non-football discussions on here.
I'm sure there are occasions were the EE/JNF boards are busier than the football board. The thought of a single board being populated during quiet periods mainly by threads about Michele Keegan's ring-piece, texts about Monty and heroic dogs doesn't bear thinking about. Just imagine the sheer number of 'Children read this board/This has no place on a football site' whinging we'd get - it'd be off the scale. For better or worse the non-football horse has long since bolted on this site and merging it all into the football board would be terrible - entertaining, but terrible.
2 boards - Football and Everything Else. Select 'All Posts' if you want it all in one board. Done. |

The problem was that someone only had to ask for a new forum and it was created. Back when this site was at what I'd call its "creative peak" there were only the footie forum and JNF. Then people moaned and the forums multiplied. Now people are moaning and they're about to contract again.
Reactionary? Us? Perish the thought. .
I've already nailed my colours to the mast. Footie, non-footie, tickets, travel and pubs. A decent format would be nice too but I fear that ship has sailed.

I was going to give my vote for 2 boards - Football and non-football, but then I realized that I only ever view this forum by 'All Posts' which, as it implies, displays all posts from all forums, and I wouldn't want to view it any other way, so I'd probably put my weight behind having just one forum for everything going by my habits.
Having said that, a lot of users have become accustomed to using Planet Swans to discuss non-football topics and there's probably more of a culture of that on here than on a lot of football sites, I can forsee a lot of moaning from people about the sheer number of non-football stuff if everything is on one board, like they used to moan before...
So...my viewing habits would say one board, but thinking it through, I can see chaos if that happened, so let's go with 2: Football (inc tickets), and Everything Else, and encourage people to bookmark the 'All Posts' viewing option if they really want everything on screen at once. |

This isn't really going to sound in-keeping with my arguments recently but.....you could keep those sub forums. I don't think they are the problem, hardly anything goes on in there anyway from what I can see so would make no difference to the 3 main forums becoming 2?

These *stickies* - Can they be moved to the right of the page, where the ads are or the "in this day in 1999" or whatever's it is?
It would free up some much needed room at the top of the board plus the Stickies could stay on page too??

Well I think most asking for the 1 or 2boards weren't even considering the fringe boards, they aren't the issue here...so I'd say keep that.
It's like Phil mentioning CCMB having 4 boards, only 1 is mainly used.... So we could have the 2 main boards Football and EE as main choices and If anyone has any inclination to post in the swap shop or Welsh forum then crack on, i can't see this having any effect on getting the site more traffic. I don't think so.
Keeping the Welsh forum and the Swap Shop would have so little effect on this site nobody would notice.
You could have them on another page (like the forums are placed now)
But then on the one main page have Football Only and all the threads and then on that same page a link to the other main board - Everything Else.
The EE of course could house your swaps and welsh posts also but if folk were desperate to keep them separate I don't think hardly anyone would notice. | |
