With him not even on the bench this evening, have we seen the last of him? We can but hope. The 'marquee' summer signing turned out to be the terrible one. Ah well, live and learn (hopefully).

The big learning from the summer window has to be you can't only go on data, you need a balance between data and old fashioned scouting

The problem we always have is whenever we spend money like a few million it's usually wasted and our record at signing strikers is so poor. If we can offload Madsen in the summer and get some money back we've done well.

I can't quite give up on Madsen just yet.

Maybe a summer on the weights and Ovaltine...

That's what I think too. Maybe he could go all summer with Kolli, gym buddies.

I hate giving up on players as I really want them to succeed at QPR. Maybe I just love the underdog.

Dean Coney, Lyndon Dykes, Colin Clarke ♥️

The positive thing I take from him being left out - other than the fact that's what he deserves given his performances - is that Marti is clearly not under any pressure to force playing time for the players he's been given.

Considering the outlay and contract, you'd assume ownership would want Madsen out there regardless, similar with Kolli starting, but it feels like Marti is left to manage his team how he sees fit which is exactly right and how it should be, but we know hasn't always been the case...

It is a problem we will have to address at some point though, because 35 year old Colback is coming on for an 18 year old youth player to play in the position we paid millions to fill with Madsen. It's a big big position of need and we've done the biggest part of our budget on it already.

It's not just a build / physical thing with Madsen though is it? Even if he were built like Bob Hazell he'd still skirt, dance around and avoid challenges. His mentality is to stay upright and clean and do technical things. Even if he looked like Tarzan, he'd still play like Jane. I'm not sure if they'll be able to change that and I don't think any team in the Championship can afford to carry a player like that in the XI.

Some good posts PS, Simmo and everyone else .

He is very robotic and emotionless . Apart from the flicker after he scored at Luton (credit where it’s due) there is just nothing to him or his game . Get angry. Be happy . Smash someone up in the air but show something .
I often voice my opinions on here and sometimes realise I see football through the prism of the past.
I’ve been criticised for being too harsh on Madsen on here . Maybe that’s the case.
However I do know when a player is hiding . I see it with Madsen and the longer this season has gone on the more he has disappeared into nothingness. I thought Dozzell was bad .

Now, what I hope is happening is that MC has taken him out of the firing line and just told him to watch and learn (he is still fairly young) , train hard and start to see what he can do to adapt to this league, because whether I or anyone else has ‘given up’ on him ( I certainly haven’t ) is irrelevant, the club cannot afford to do so . Unless we get a bid similar to what we paid and that is highly unlikely .
As I’ve said before there is certainly a player in there . But the desire , passion and fire has to come from within him first and foremost .

That was a very high intensity game last night with both teams going for it in every position on the park from the first minute to last. Furthermore, if we want to progress then that is the way it is going to be because we are not going to able to stroke the ball around without being put under duress in this League. Madsen is not going to be able to play with that level of bite and speed. The club needs to shop around to re-house him. Hopefully something can be organised for the summer.

I just don't get why Madsen has seemed so unwilling to do what it takes. He's really blown a chance here, because if you look at where we are despite our appalling start to the season you can see that thee's plenty of potential here but he's p*ssed away the chance to be the main man in this side.

I doubt he's "unwilling," he just doesn't play the game that way, and probably can't. The Championship is pretty high tempo, as upper level European leagues go. A player like, for example, Smyth does well with a relatively minimal skill-set, but likely wouldn't crack on in the Portuguese or Dutch leagues for example. Madsen is the opposite.

OK, some fair points here.

I suppose what I mean by "unwilling to do what it takes" isn't so much about charging around at high temp, it's more about mailing himself a key part of the team - which in his case would be about pulling the strings, pinging the ball out to willing runners like Smyth or Saito. That's what I'm not seeing and hoped for.

QPROslo may be onto something with the idea that trying to contribute more defensively has been detrimental (though if so that makes him a luxury this team probably can't afford.) Certainly there were some signs early on that he had something to offer, which have largely disappeared.

Westerloo are struggling this season and should avoid relegation. Maybe an undisclosed fee and a sell back might work for all parties.

I’ve been wracking my brains all night to think of who Madsen reminded me of and has potential to be like and it’s Sander Berge. Lanky Scandi who gets around the pitch with a great pass on him - every time he played against us he always stood out. Not a tackler

Had a few years in the Champ and now doing well in a good Fulham team

Maybe we need to get a VHS compilation of his highlights on the go

Better players than Madsen took at least a season to adjust to English football.

I live in hope but am not holding my breath.

Sander Berge is so much more phyiscal , dominates the midfield, they couldn't be more different in style

How do you know it was all data? I think given we’ve had no JCS and no chair for most of season, our recruitment has been decent.

No idea what JCS or Chair being unavailable has to do with our recruitment, but I think it's clear that there was a.reliance on data for our signings. In the main it seems to have made sense - e.g. Varane being the closest profile statistically to Hayden, who we were looking to replace. But with Madsen I think it's absolutely clear there wasn't enough physical assessment. I'm not a scout and I doubt the rest of the season ticket holders at LR are, but it didn't take many of us long to work out he was an empty shirt when faced with a high tempo physical game. An assessment I believe was already echoed by Gallen and others that had seen/assessed Madsen already.

Ultimately I don't think you can look at just stats/data and assume that translates into the championship, a league that shows you again and again that a certain level of experience, nous and management of the physicality is just as important as anything else.

When Madsen came in my son immediately said he could be our Sander Berge.
He isn't.

On JCS and Chair being unavailable I meant that, the clearest signal that our recruitment is working is that arguably our 2 best players from last season have for the most part been missing and yet we sit with 41 points today.

Also, we may be over-relying on stats but I thought to say we “you can’t only look at data” isn’t right. Of course you can’t only look at date but I don’t believe we are or were doing that. But even the stats about Madsen raised alarms…..big lad who isn’t that good in the air and not physical.
I would say it’s just a bad decision rather than our recruitment method isn’t working. Clubs all make bad signings and this looks like being one.

On the experience side, we had experience in the squad and didn’t need more. Cook, Fox, Colback, Dunne. And to some extent Chair!

We’ve got a young CEO and he’s making mistakes (as does everyone) but he’s learning from them in my view.

Can I just point out that Ovaltine is a bedtime drink. Do we really want Madsen even more sleepy than he is?

I think it's worth trying some kind of environmental exposure technique: 3 months living on a rough council estate, lifting weights in the morning and delivering slabs of meat across London for the rest of the day.

If he agrees to and completes that he should return for pre-season and they can reassess.

It's exactly this and I've said many times, we can't afford to carry a player like him.

I don't see a future for him at QPR, but wish him well. I don't think he's got a bad attitude or is lazy or anything like that - he just has a way playing that isn't what we need.
