Tom Carroll on 19:40 - Jan 13 by Neath_Jack | He was exactly the same level as Joey was with us. Joey has gone up a few levels now, there's nothing to say that he won't do the same either. I'd still like to see a nasty b@stard enforcer brought in though. |
Joey got himself a £15million pound move to Liverpool off the back of his performances for us, Tom Carroll did nothing to suggest he was going to become a big player, hence why Spurs are letting him go. He never has, in any point of his career been anywhere close to Joey Allens level.
Tom Carroll on 09:15 - Jan 14 with 2354 views | Jokeren1943 | Swansea will not spent 10-15 million on players this winter when there is a 60-70 % risk that the club will play in the Championship next season. The club will look for 3-6 million players who will do well in both PL and the Championship (and do not need a high wage).

The only time Allen has been at that level is for swans, Wales and Stoke. He was no better than Carrol at Liverpool because he was a bit part reserve player.

Whereas Carroll has never been at that level. He is a decent enough buy for that kind of money, but it's going to be difficult to stay up by signing £4 or £5m players that marginally improve the first team.

I agree and it is obvious we do not have the money to try and buy our way out of this mess. The good news for me is slightly improving the squad, coupled with Clem's organisation as opposed to Bob a Job's, might just get us out of this mess. The worry for me is that I think midfield is our major problem with defence following close behind. Going for a lightweight ball playing midfielder and ignoring the need for a replacement for Ash could easily be our undoing regardless.

You think any manager but Brenda would have taken Joe to Liverpool for that much money at that time?

Tom Carroll on 08:58 - Jan 14 by jack247 | I know. I have said that many times on here. I don't think you can sign Tom Carroll, flick a switch and start playing magic football again. If it was that easy all the low budget teams would have copied us 6 or 7 years ago. The time for re-establishing the Swansea way is in the summer at the earliest. We need to be scraping out points now. We only need to finish ahead of 3 cloggers. Pretty much like last season when Guidolin came in and played mostly dour, but organised and effective football. |
You're having a Weston Super of late Jack boy. Agreeing, disagreeing with the same thing. What we need is nothing' like the player I think you are trying to describe. Those players get slaughtered in midfield's in the Premier League and are left chasing shadows when they've got nowhere close to leaving their size 10's on someone. We need to be more active in our midfield, for us to see more of the ball in there so players that are comfortable receiving it and shifting it on accurately. We need more zip than we've had for too long. Carroll won't be the only answer to our prayers but he's a step in the right direction.

Tom Carroll on 11:35 - Jan 14 with 1919 views | Joe_bradshaw | The thing about Joe Allen is that he was never a £15M player. Rodgers did us a huge favour by paying approximately double what he was worth and he never really established himself at Anfield. We could have bought him back in May for £8M which would have been great business for us because he's much better than what we have. Then he had a great Euros and that put another £5M on his price and enabled him to demand much higher wages than he could have asked for six weeks earlier.

Personally I am reasonably happy with our transfers will improve us and if we do go down will have a good go at coming back. Still need a good quality centre half as well

Joey started being integrated into our first team in League 1 and right through the Championship. That's a world of difference between the players Joe was competing with and the ones Carroll was, so it's a ridiculous comparison but a subject that is debated often. If Dele Alli had been stuck in Spurs reserves the same may have happened to him. It's pathetic all this negativity about a young player who will come down to us to really kick on and be desperate to progress. Once more ashamed.

That's because he's always been at spurs. He was only ever brought here as a backup to what we had so was never gonna hit his full potential. Don't get me wrong I think Allen is a great player and would love him back but if Carrol had started his career with us and Allen had started with Spurs I don't think the outcomes would be too different.

We've got Ki for that.. haven't you noticed us shipping goals because teams have been steamrollering us 4-1 and 3-0.. I don't think Tom Carroll is going to be the messiah for our ineptitude to defend.

Yeah when we're not on the ball half as much as we used to be, especially in the crucial midfield area that's likely to happen more often than if we were.

He isn't gonna make a jot of difference in that midfield, it was shocking today, Fer came on and strolled around yet some think he can do the DM job not a hope in hell.

I swear to God people just spout out the first bit of rubbish that pops into their heads That was the laziest Arsenal team I've ever seen in the first half and they just allowed us to play. Carroll who can play and pass would've been ideal in there. So much better than Cork or Siggy that's for sure.

I hope you are right Chris, but l can't see it after today's debacle, there's so much wrong in the side at the moment and we're expecting Carroll to put it right it's not gonna happen we need another in midfield for me, maybe Fulton is the player but it's a lot to expect from the both of them.
