He was exactly the same level as Joey was with us. Joey has gone up a few levels now, there's nothing to say that he won't do the same either. I'd still like to see a nasty b@stard enforcer brought in though.

Maybe Tom Carroll can be our nasty b@stard enforcer. As I read on another site " When you need a bulldog why would you by a Poodle"

He wasn't close to Joe Allens level when he was with us. He may go up a few levels agreed, but he was pretty average last time. £4.5m is probably about right for him. Agree we need a nasty midfielder who puts the boot in more than a neat and tidy player who recycles possession well.

All about opinions mate. Joey was no great shakes when he was with us, we mugged Liverpool for the money we got for him, but at Liverpool he improved massively. If you remember, everyone at the time was saying how Liverpool had bought the wrong player, they should have gone for Leon.

Interesting. I would say Mo Barrow.

We did get way over the odds for Joe. No doubt about that. They probably would have gone for Leon if he was a few years younger, at least one of the big clubs would. I still thought he was excellent for us though. Was expecting Carroll to be fairly similar, but he just seemed like Joe with the brakes on. As you say, all about opinions and he could well flourish seeing as he will more than likely start most weeks.

From liverpools point maybe they did buy the wrong one. Hardly played & lost a couple of million on him [Post edited 13 Jan 2017 21:53]

Wasn't he? Maybe Joey had a lot easier transition into the first team... Think about it.

We've never needed thugs before, and it's a lack of talent that's put us in this mess.

If the add ons come into play, I will be more than happy to pay them. Add ons are more often than not unrealistic, if we need to pay them both Carroll and the club have over achieved.

Agreed. But we have never been in this situation before, at least not since the 80's. I wouldn't have said we needed a target man before either, but don't think we would have a chance if we lost Llorente. I'd love us to go back to the kind of football that would suit Tom Carroll. I wouldn't do it now though, I'd concentrate on tightening up at the back and trying to nick games. We won't do that with a lightweight midfield.

Why is returning to the football that never put us in this situation not the answer for getting out of this situation? If you want to play the same game as the cloggers you need a lot of luck and money to finish ahead of them.

I know. I have said that many times on here. I don't think you can sign Tom Carroll, flick a switch and start playing magic football again. If it was that easy all the low budget teams would have copied us 6 or 7 years ago. The time for re-establishing the Swansea way is in the summer at the earliest. We need to be scraping out points now. We only need to finish ahead of 3 cloggers. Pretty much like last season when Guidolin came in and played mostly dour, but organised and effective football.
