Pompey's new goal hero: We want to keep this good feeling flowing

Pompey head to Cambridge on Tuesday night wondering if their late goal specialist might be called into stoppage time action again.

Conor Shaughnessy headed the Blues to three points for the second time in three games when he rose to nod in Jack Sparkes' corner three minutes into four added on at the end of Saturday's clash with Carlisle.

He is enjoying his new role as the late, late hero although would probsbly rather see the team tie up a result earlier in proceedings now and then.

Pompey are three points clear at the top of League One with 13 games played but face another stiff test at Cambridge.

Shaughnessy is enjoying life - and his goals. He told the Pompey website: 'It’s an unbelievable feeling – as I said a few weeks ago, it doesn’t really get any better than that.

'It came off the back of what was a difficult 45 minutes for us and Carlisle had some good moments in the second half. So I think it’s a really important win for us and we can look back on it as an excellent three points collected.

'We know that Sparkesy is going to send in a great delivery every time and I have an idea where he’s going to put it. It’s just about the movement, attacking the ball and keeping it down – thankfully they all added up and it hit the back of the net.

'Teams are going to sit back when they come here and make it tough for us to break them down, so we needed to stick at it. We’re not getting carried away at the moment and just want to keep that good feeling flowing around the place.'
