Pompey are not panicking over the prospect of being without Christian Burgess for a game or two if an injury picked up in the win over Hartlepool proves more serious than feared.
The central defender hobbled off after a late challenge towards the end of the 4-0 win with an ankle injury and the results of an x-ray are awaited.
Matt Clarke would be the obvious choice to come back into the side alongside Adam Webster. Jack Whatmough is nearing fitness after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
Pompey assistant boss Leam Richardson told The News: ‘It’s a tough one — it was a lazy challenge that comes at the end of a game. The centre forward is a bit frustrated and caught him.
It’s not looking great — he will get X-rayed and we will have a better prognosis from there. It is disappointing for Christian — he is in a boot at the minute. He will get X-rayed and we will have a better prognosis from there.’
But Richardson added: ‘We are lucky at the minute with the centre-halves we have got. They are very young, very vibrant, want to learn and want to work. Whichever partnership you pick at the minute the gaffer will be pleased with.’
