First and second halves. In the first their Middlesbrough possession was primarily going through their captain number 7 Hackney when our attacks broke down he found himself in space on the ball but deep in his own half, Franco and O'Brien sitting in the middle as needed not allowing quick forward progression by him and the likes of Cullen and Vipotnik able to chase him down stopping a lot of forward progression as our defence got tight.

The second half change of K. Ịheanachọ their number nine coming on up top and a rejigged back line meant they nullified the threat oof our right side and with K. Ịheanachọ dropping deeper into the pocket behind Franco and O'Brien they were getting better possession further up the field which increased with Darling's withdrawal, it took time for Delacroix to get to grips with the game. That possession further forward allowed their wing on our left to cause Tymon problems. Cooper on for Eom did little to relieve that pressure, Bianchini neither because the space they were finding was further up field. Fulton extra height needed?
Solid rearguard reaction but we did lose that attacking edge. Being fair to Cooper he did relieve the pressure with a feint to play the dreaded pass backwards to turn his man to head down the wing ending up a with a free kick and relief down the pitch but I do wonder if adopting a 4-4-2 with Bianchini and Ginnelly up top would keep a viable threat up top, it did against Blackburn with Ginnelly causing all sorts of problems when he came on, we were in a better position score wise than yesterday's game and I suppose the end justified Sheehan's decisions.
Very enjoyable win.

Excellent post again from Richard. What we want to see on here.

Here’s hoping Ginnelly gets a shot at it, Sheehan seems happy with not messing around too much with his squad, that’s good. A reemergence of Eom is very satisfying, let’s hope he can continue that early season form. Keep VIP up front.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

It was quite noticeable how often one of their midfielders (probably the #7, I didn't notice) dropped very deep to get the ball. Their approach very much resembled what we tried to do for much of the season.

The second half is where Sheehan fell down a little for me. He tends to make the right subs in general, but usually a little late for my liking. I'd have left Vip on and played Bianchini wider, maybe for Ronald, maybe as a shift to a 4-4-2. Give them a dual threat to face. Instead we did a straight swap and tried to play the same way, which didn't suit FB at all. He's a willing runner, but in no way able to hold the ball up as well, which left it coming straight back at us a bit too much.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Wow - you must disect the game as your watching or do you watch it back, fabulous insight as always. It's great watching the Swans being positive and coming away happy after an enjoyable performance. It's a real shame that we have Burnley and Leeds in the next 3 games. I was a little surprised that Ronald lasted 90mins, but apart from that no complaints from me.
Anyone still missing Matt, that's not a dig, it's a serious question. The last 2 managers love in with Matt and the turgid tactics are even more baffling now. I genuinely hope he's enjoying his football in Coventry as he's a nice guy but was strangling us.

I made a point of watching MW yesterday, obviously very talented, with a lovely touch and great vision, but so laid back it's frightening, he lost the ball a few times and made no effort to get it back or close down, just kind of shrugged his shoulders.
Compare his attitude with Franco who run his blood to water and the roar he gave out at the final whistle is stark. Please can we tie this guy down long time.

As I remember it the number 7 and 9 stuck in the mind as to how much time they made for themselves on the ball, do check names and timings of subs to try and get my head straight.
Middlesbrough changed who was marking Ronald in the second half and Ronald did get in quite a tussle with the new fullback in the second half who even tried to go pass Key but Key's pace was enough to recover the situation, between Ronald and Key they should be ripping shreds out of opposition defences but given what they have previously been asked to do they have no idea on how to compliment each other when they do opposition's defences will be in trouble rather than the indecisive play we are seeing from them at times, fingers crossed.
Leeds can leak goals and leave themselves open, Burnley we shall see, just hope we don't get any more injuries for players that would affect our shape.

Just briefly switched Coventry game on and we Groms on the ball
He passed it five yards in a row to the same teammate gaining not an inch
Then he crabbed across the field and lost the ball
When he loses the ball , he is like a slug trying to cover up his error
He is utterly without any goal threat and his "touch" is nothing but rudimentary
His vision. IMO, is rather myopic
For me, the most overated player we've had
The fact he was idolised by Martin and Williams is all the evidence one needs to see how badly those three killed our momentum seeing thousands walking away out of sheer boredom and frustration
Good luck Matt?
Yeah baby

Was MW ever going to displace Piroe and Ntcham but even with those two they needed to be complimented by other players for the team to function properly similar to Grimes needing others so that he could operate in a productive way.

There are only so many players a team can carry if they are lacking in some areas of their game, all about having the right balance of players.

Jamie Patterson was on the bench for Coventry yesterday, should we have tried to keep him.

We needed as much quality up top as we could keep
and Paterson had a level of quality but given his age and temperament, wasn't too unhappy to see him leave, a player that could produce things up top but could we carry both him and Grimes in the midfield but similar to Allen wouldn't be able to last too many full games, I don't want to see us carrying too many players but you do need to have a bit of quality in all areas of the pitch.

Shame to see Peart-Harris injured and back for assessment at Brentford seem to have a couple of qualities some of our players had been lacking or was it a case he wasn't see eye to eye with what Williams wanted but with the shackles off was more effective but then again were others as well now showing what they can do like Eom in a team who could do with being more clinical?

Early days under Sheehan and O'Brien has added to the team which personnel wise hasn't changed that much from William's teams but playing better than without both William's and Grimes. I don't expect us to pull up trees and we may struggle against the so called big boys but our set up and shape has been better but still there are issues that may be unresolved this season with the players available. Hope we keep a sense of belief that we can compete in games against anyone and not struggle as we did against teams like Southampton undet Sheehan and Leicester under Duff after signs of improvement hopefully without Grimes in the team we will be able to compete in the middle of the park and not concede ground while maintaining a threat up top.

An excellent enjoyable win against another play off seeking team.
Looking forward When we played Burnley away we defended well had a couple of half chances and lost to a very dubious last minute penalty. Leeds at home we deserved at least a draw but went a bit gung ho and again lost in the last minute.
We can survive against them...
