Perfect summary Clive with the normal quality lines that always bring a smile and a laugh on a drab Monday morning.
A very long and expensive day and your so right Leeds never got out of second gear which was very surprising and the Celar chance at the end was huge but he put it six feet wide.
We are now also losing our wooden spoon race with Portsmouth.
Thank god for the international break and I can go back to watching some non league football.
Agree we shouldn't be aspiring to be them but having a bit of Millwall grit, playing with 2 strikers (which would certainly help Celar) and putting some bloody crosses into the box would be a mega improvement on the tippy tappy slop I keep watching.
And I would bite your hand off for five wins before Christmas......
All won 1 v 0 including beating Leeds last night. - They seem to be everything we are not - A team full of men who can put in very gritty performances with no wimps. They also don't play suicidal football out from the back because they know they aren't good enough.
They certainly don't have six number 10's and a powder puff midfield.
Not saying we need to bring out the water cannons but I do look across at them and sigh sometimes.......
Not really we had a great period in the nineties under Gerry Francis and dare I say it Richard Thomson. Once Chris Wright took over the wheels came off but we recovered and Briatore and Ecllestone got us back in the Premier League.
The recent issues can be traced back to the sacking of Warnock. A milestone that will be marked in our history for generations to come……
Thanks Clive - I wasn’t at W12 and missed it on the box due to work commitments.
I saw the line up and thought okay its the best we can do and with Saturday’s performance and two clean sheets under our belt I admit I was quietly confident.
However when I checked the score some hours later I also wasn’t surprised. We really have become a poor team made by the disasterous summer recruitment.
We have become an absolute mess. We performed a miracle last season but lightning doesn’t strike twice and we are heading for league one.
Our hopes now are to try and avoid the wooden spoon in a fight with Portsmouth.
I have to also question my own sanity going to Leeds Saturday it seemed like a good idea a few weeks ago.
Thanks Clive great summary for those of us who were out doing other things Saturday and hats of too the 710 hardy souls who made the trip.
As you say something to build on. Unfortunately we are back in a dogfight so trying to play the tippy tappy play out from the back stuff may have to be put on ice until (if) we can get into calmer waters.
Thanks for that whatever happens including relegation we must stay with Marti. To be honest I don’t think we can afford to sack him anyway. I guess we are still paying Ainsworth and Dobbo until thier contracts expire.
Paal could be a blessing in disguise - He has been poor all season and teams know that and target our left hand side. He also offers very little going forward.
Thanks Guys - Better than Derby and Portsmouth but that is coming from a very low bar. Varane made a huge difference in plugging the gaping hole we have seen in midfield and Saito showed what's been missing on the left side following a number of dreadful performances from the hapless Paal.
That along with JCS returning and hopefully Dunne returning to right back we may start to grind out a few points. However we are still toothless up top and despite getting into some good areas we never look like scoring. We need to improve our decision making in the final third.
Like Dembele I was disappointed with him tonight - very little influence on the game, poor corners the first of which led to their goal, selfish in possession and trying silly shots from long distances which were pathetic.
I'm still fuming with him following his one on one with Portsmouth Saturday.
On the flip side Varane and Saito were very good and Nardi kept us in the game.
