Eight Wins From Glory
at 20:39:46

An average on 2pts/game does give you a good chance to qualify for the CL. To reach this we'd need to take 33pts from our last 14 games, which is a hell of a target!!
However, this is nothing like an average season, and apart from Chelsea and Man City, all the so called big clubs are under achieving, so it is very difficult to predict what's needed to finish in the top 4. Let's take it one game at a time and see where it gets us. Our advantage is that we're under no pressure and have no cup games (Europe or domestic) to cope with....

Grapevine Is Whispering A Big Signing Today For Saints
at 14:57:37

Why would Burnley let Ings go on transfer deadline day, with no way of replacing him. He's their only chance of staying up. Can't see it happening, myself.

Saints Linked With Serie A Sensation
at 11:07:37

There must, indeed, be some money available, but there is a £40m wage bill and the new Marchwood facilities famously cost £30m, so I'm not sure the £80m "haven't been touched"...

Add Lovren to the mix. Apparently he is the perfect replacement for Vidic.

Don't forget that we won't have a manager either; he's been summoned by Tottenham and there's obviously no way anyone would miss the opportunity for such a massive step up...

Now Let's Pack St Mary's On Saturday
at 17:37:23

I suppose that the comment from brady100 is aimed at me.
The debate is about why there are empty seats at StMary's and perhaps if instead of putting your "proper fan" blinkers on you actually thought about it, you'd realise that this might be one of the explanations.
But I see that you agree with me about the games being poor and dull and I also agree that it was mainly due to the other teams' tactics, but that does not make it better.
And lastly, you may have enough spare money to spend £50+ on 2 hours of poor and dull; well good on you, but it isn't the case for everybody, proper fan or not.

I agree with Simmo.
It is not just about the price, it is about value for money. Football is now an entertainment business, and frankly, there has been very little entertainment in the last few games I went. After the Sunderland game I decided not to bother going to watch West Ham as I was expecting the same dire show. It seems I was right (I didn't bother watching on TV either).
The results are great, but if it is just about the result, I can get it for free on the internet.
For me, the so called best league in the word has been disappointing so far, and bar a few exceptions, it seems to be the case all around the country, judging by the empty seats...

3 Days To Go To The Big Kick Off
at 10:39:50

I am probably a glass half empty person but I keep in mind the last 6 games of last season and I am not so sure that signing Lovren and VW will improve us enough to be that much better.
I can't see us scoring enough goals and the idea that we'll start the season without our 2 FBs doesn't fill me with much confidence either.
I think a draw this week-end is the very best we can expect and as things stand, I'd be happy with 14th come the end of the season.

All Quiet On The Transfer Front
at 08:11:09

Based simply on the fact that MP himself came out earlier in the summer confirming several targets we haven't signed yet, it is fair to say that we haven't been as successful in our transfer policy as we would have liked to be so far.
Yes we have played the likes of Liverpool and Man City off the park but we also have got 4 points out of the last 6 games against the like of Stoke and West Brom when we were really poor. I am not sure that Lovren and Victor W will dramatically change that and I can't see us scoring enough goals to hope for a finish in the top 10.
But there's still 5 weeks of transfer to go, so not panicking just yet...

Another Week Another Rumour
at 10:47:24

I agree that we are aiming to high for our transfer targets, and I'm concerned that while we are wasting our time trying to sign players who are clearly dragging things on, waiting for an offer from "bigger" clubs, the players we could be signing instead will have been snapped by others.
I am beginning to think that our scouting network is a bit of a waste of money too. It would prove usefull if it came up with Michu like discoveries, but if it's to identify the likes of Damiao or Banega who are known as good players and are expensive because everybody wants them, there is no point scouting Europe.
