Lyndon Dykes 07:10 - Aug 29 with 31581 viewsdmm

It's been mentioned a few times but I do hope Dykes game changing cameo and goal yesterday finally silences his remaining critics.

Yes, he came on late and played against a tiring opposition, but his goal - 3rd of the season - showed great skill and owed nothing to Coventry's tired defence.

He may not be the complete goal scoring striker, but what he has got is plenty good enough for us.

Bit lucky there… keeper should have been over it after guessing right. But had enough power on it.

Two starts, two goals, helped improve a dire performance when he came on as sub. All good for us, momentum and confidence. Hope he now gets taken off!

Dykes is having a good game so far winning his headers, giving the Austrian CBs a hard time, and scoring the pen.

Been watching it on a stream through some espanol tv and when he scored the gooooooooooooooooal went on for nearly a minute. Thought Hinteregger is lucky to still be on the field as that was probably a caution for the penalty.

Which stream?

Northern recently mentioned Dykes has started to use the early jump trick to winning a header where you effectively end up riding on your opponent's jump. Dykes has done that a lot in this game.

Andre Gray signing looks like a shrewd move now, doesn't it?

I thought ankle injury. He was able to hobble off. Not sure whether he was doing a bit of “game management” or really injured.

I'd say even with Gray coming in, we're still a striker short, squad-wise.

Also, the man himself said in his interview he lacks 'match sharpness' and his scoring ratio with Watford has been Zamora-esque, despite a more than decent history before that.

I believe Warburton will get the best out of him, and he's coming into a fluent team and unified squad, but to think he's going to come straight in and automatically/consistently strike up Flanagan and Allen-like understandings with Charlie and/or Lyndon and 'do the business' is optimistic, imo.

Be nice if Scotland could send him back in one piece every now and again.

Did anyone really expect him to be playing on Saturday after the travel and playing so much?

Separately to that, he needs to learn how to hold up the ball. It was quite poor tonight, again. Improve that and he will be a real asset to us. Perhaps he needs some time with Les.

Back -to-goal strikers would be a good thread.
Helguson takes some beating.
Furlong perhaps?
Post-injury Gallen.

It was something Zamora was good at until teams put a defender behind and in front of him when we went long from the back.

Dykes will be fine, he's not a bloody fairy.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Got to bear in mind that even if he'd not been injured I can't imagine he'd start on Saturday anyway, having played the whole of the 2nd half v Denmark and started the next two games (85 mins v Moldova, 60 mins before getting injured off v Austria), plus two international return flights and best part of another back from Scotland to London.

So you'd expect him to get at least a week off up to the Bournemouth game anyway with Charlie starting and Gray on the bench v Reading. Let's hope it's a bit of a twisted ankle and he's fine by then.
