Jofra Archer has been named in the squad, and rightly so. He offers genuine pace and he’s still relatively unknown to the other teams. I don’t agree with the omission of David Willey though. I wouldn’t have had Liam Dawson. But hey ho.
This is the first round robin CWC since Australia/New Zealand in 1992. For me, that was the best CWC. Australia were big favourites, but lost their first four games. England are big favourites for this one. Let’s hope we get off to a better start.
Come on England ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿.

India will beat England today and England will not qualify for the semi finals. The Aussies will win the WC, they are the strongest side by some distance. I also think they will be too good for England in the Ashes.
How did you get on with prat shite prediction Jonno.?? .... 😂😉.... Come on England.!!!!!

Not sure what the hell happened to Oz yesterday - they disappeared. How many would we have got in 50 overs? Nearly 400 I should think. Woakes didn't even bowl his full 10 overs. It was a massacre! Australia does know how to win World Cups - but not this one!

I was in Aussie for the Ashes, played club cricket against Joe Root's dad and know a few players around the test team. The level of abuse labelled at Alli would have destroyed Rashid. I'm glad he didn't face it as Alli has gone backwards since.
Don't believe the Aussie PR machine, they're a nasty bunch of xxxx'ers who crossed every line out there.
Bring on the Ashes, I'll be in the Hollies stand getting some payback from two years ago.
Yeah same I was out there for Melbourne and Sydney test, Warner,Smith and Lyon are the equivalent of Terry, Lampard and Ashley Cole absolute shit caants.
I have day 1 & 2 in the Hollies before going up to Stoke the following day then Lords and The Oval, I really hope we come out on top, their fans and players are arrogant tossers of the highest order.
Stand up for your Queen

Surely the Aussies shouting strongly for a non catch is the equivalent of a full on Ashley young dive, in other words cheating Bastards. I always thought that cricket had a gentleman’s code, when did that change?
favourite cheese mature Cheddar. FFS there is no such thing as the EPL
A friend of mine got to know Smith very well when he came to England for a summer as a teenager and said he was a nice polite considerate guy at that time- and a fantastic cricketer.
it makes me think when you get in to the Aussie set up there has been a default that you are expected to behave like a belligerent pr1ck and they just all get soaked in that culture.

They certainly have a point about blaming Bairstow! That really was a complete waste of a review. As was the Australian one!
After the effrontery of appealing for that I assume they have now forgiven Stuart Broad for his "non walking"!
Somewhere in this thread somebody implied that Roy is just a slogger & not a "proper" batsman. His defence looked good yesterday & surely he must be a starter for the test matches.

I was in NZ and Australia for a year in 1989/90 on a working holiday. Most Aussies are a great bunch who love nothing but a beer and a laugh. They test you out with pommy this and pommy that, but if you joke back with them and have a laugh, they’re the same.
We only had a couple of instances of them taking things too far. You’re always going to have idiots like that. We’ve got them too.
While we were there, we were being thrashed by them in the ashes over here. We got loads of piss taking, but we’d have been the same if we were thrashing them. I was back there in 2005 for my uncles funeral just after we’d gone 2-1 up in the ashes. All the Aussies I chatted to were praising England for the way we were outplaying them.
It’s their cricket team that are total pricks.

Woakes and Archer were brilliant. woakes delivery to warner was pure class
Roys innings really reminded of a classic Sehwag innings- he set the tone and relieved all the pressure with his aggressive early strokes. The early cover drives he played for four against Starc; hitting Lyon for 6 on his first ball; the repeat straight drives he was hitting for boundaries. and to do this all to the best fast bowler in the world. unbelievable watching and i was gutted to see he didnt get the century b/c of a bogus decision. a bit selfish of bairstow to take the review, considering he was plum lbw. why not go to the pavilion and recuperate so hes fit for the final?
in my opinion, eoin morgan is not an intl standard batsman. no technique, lots of loose shots and only seems to score when there's no pressure. it was funny watching how australia were trying to set him up for a crappy hook shot with 3 boundary fielders and short midwicket. i dont follow england too closely, but everyone says his captaincy is good, and yesterday it was on display, particularly sticking with rashid when he was getting hit around early. the carey wicket was crucial, and the googly he bowled to lbw stoinis was a lovely delivery.
special credit to steve smith for a gutsy 80... he pushed and prodded and was never comfortable but managed to keep them in the game. lovely knock and something i wish kohli couldve done. compare the two players semifinal performances, its bleak reading
finally, a player who i really have come to admire is alex carey. lovely lovely player, and if nothing else comes out of this world cup, i think australia has found a good wicket keeper for the ashes. fantastic talent.

The answer to that was given by Sir Richard Hadlee in a TMS interview a couple of years ago, talking about how the current NZ side had tried to get back to the Spirit of Cricket, cut out sledging etc. and how he hoped it would spread.
All very serious and gentlemanly until Agnew or whoever asked about it spreading to Australia and Sir Richard just snorted and said "The CONVICTS!!!!!!???? Good luck with that"
TBF don't think they were trying to cheat yesterday, heat of the moment, split second, they saw what they wanted to see. Not like trying to claim one you know didn't carry.

Part of it is just cultural - they genuinely think they're having bit of banter, we think they're being c**ts. I think Indians, Pakistanis and West Indians find it worse - what Aussies think is fair game comes over as bloody rude or plain racist.
Loads of their players who come over as d**ks on the pitch are charming when they retire and go into commentary etc.
I think you're right about the ethos of the side, and the crowds and press just make it worse - I like the way Finch and Paine conduct themselves, I hope it'll make a change.

An Indian mate said at the start of the tournament that if India didn't get to the final did I want his tickets for the final at face value. If England get through I will indeed, said I.
Find out today that he has given them to his wife and she is going with a friend. What makes this even worse is that she doesn't actually like cricket.
Today is crap.

great post. Agree about Morgan - it's his captaincy that gets him in the side these days more than anything, but that is worth so much. He plays with no fear and leads so well and it's invaluable. Yesterday bravely bowling out Jof to go for the jugular, for instance. If we do manage to win on Sun, I wonder what he'll do? He may fall on his sword and let Jos take over. On the other hand, we may say he's not international class, but he hit 17 sixes in one game, was excellent yesterday and who exactly do we replace him with? Bring Hales in as a 3 and push Root down? Vince? Ali? Or someone new.
Bare bones.

Can't see Morgan standing down or even being sat down if we win the World Cup. 'English' World Cup winning captains come few and far between and he'll surely want to make the most of the opportunity. Even if he 'doesn't do anything much' as a player, there's no loss in losing him apart from his captaincy, which has been first class compared to what went before. Why would anyone want to weaken this side? As long as he can captain the side and run around a bit, that's just fine with me. A one day Brearley.

Eoin Morgan is the new Mike Brearley. Discuss.
I don't think that Morgan would be a great test captain as there isn't a great test side for anyone to captain to start with. However I think that his approach suits this side in the same way that Brearley's approach suited that test side, so there are some similarities in terms of their respective contributions to two very different sides.

Disagree completely, Morgan offers so much with the bat. I'm biased though as im Middlesex member
if its 200/2, he'll score a half century. if youre playing afghanistan, he'll score 150
its a bit harsh to compare him to brearly, or in modern terms, mortaza from bangladesh (who can neither bowl nor bat). but to me, hes the weak link of a really really good batting lineup.
