The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 58949 viewsexiledclaseboy

Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on.

First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland.

The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so.

Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods.

Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

So unelected Shami is talking about democracy?

So Shami joined Labour due to Corbyn's message? I thought she said at the time she joined the Labour party as otherwise she wouldn't have been able to interview people for that report?

Oh no I have every sympathy for her, especially as her cowardly boss dumped on her. But it's politics and we want her seat. A massive signal which nobody would even have contemplated pre election announcement.

Labour could get a majority .

Even they are not saying that I don't think.

And Corbyn ruled out a coalition in the leader non debate.

They could do though as the polls are all over the place including the exit polls.

He can get round a coalition by putting forward a Queen's Speech and daring the SNP et al to vote it down. That's if the Tories can't get one through of course cos they'll get first go.

Actually that's not true necessarily.

It would still show as it is if they were all voting Tory and remainer Tories moved away to Labour or LibDem.

A possible factor but wouldn't explain the swing of Ukip votes in leave heartlands.

Yeah, but the swing calculation is just a simplistic one. They don't actually know where the votes have moved from. That's the point I'm making. It may be that that makes it look odd.
