Come on then, what are they? 2016 may have felt like the ultimate annus horribilis but at least it's been a damn fine year for music.
My top 6 so far:
Frank Ocean - Blond(e) Underworld - Barbara, Barbara, We Face a Shining future David Bowie - Black Star Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool Michael Kiwanuka - Love and Hate James Blake - The Colour in Anything
Might be able to add a few once I've trawled through this year's album of the year polls but the above (for me) will take some topping.

Markrtid - Agree with you on Mutual Benefit.
That's among my favourites. Will do a Top 5 list in the next day or so.
Agree BriN and Markritd - I really like Mutual Benefit; though Skip A Sinking Stone is struggling to get out of the wonderful shadow that is the previous album, Love's Crushing Diamond.
I'll have a think and try to come up with this year's top 5 albums. Shortly.

Ive not listened to as much new stuff as normal, but I don't think it's been a great year either.
From the original list I like Radiohead, not taken with Bowie's Black Star. Michael Kiwunka is good in parts, but too many weak tracks.
Picked up on Daughter early in the year. I like the new Kings of Leon. Not groundbreaking but still a very decent return to form.

Can't for the life of me understand what people see in that Frank Ocean record. It's on every year end list the same way Armand Traore keeps getting a contract.

'Be Yourself' is class. I sent that to my son with tears down my boat race. And I hate rap music.
Why go on about what you don't agree with instead adding to the topic with what you like?

Both bands are f*cking brilliant (and completely different) for anyone that is interested in exploring. Both great live too. This was Goat's 3rd album and The Heavy's 4th, I think.

If you like Joy Division, Siouxsie etc you'll love this Their first album probably edged it for me, but this is a worthy follow up

At times these guys are straight ripping off Siouxsie. Stick with the original.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Scream & Join hands by Siouxsie are two of my all time best albums. Having seen S&TB live several times in their early days (before they wee shit) and Savages as recently as last week, I'd say Savages are better live, but you cant beat the energy of the late 70s Difficult to make a direct comparison though...different times and all that

S'alright. I have the same level of incomprehension about Kanye West making these lists. Every. Sodding. Year. Don't get it at all.
But that's one of the things I love most about music, that subjectivity. Actually quite glad that not everybody 'gets' that Frank Ocean album. It is a pretty bold record, especially for someone I'd previously considered quite mainstream. Was actually a bit bemused on first listen but definitely rewards patience and I now think it's one of the best albums I've heard in years.
