Fustrating, but not the end of the world 22:14 - Dec 13 with 10515 viewsQPRConor2000

Think tonight was a bit disappointing, frustrated not to have got the win, if it doesn't show why we need a striker next month, I dont know what will.

If you take our result out of the equation for a min, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed and Rotherham all lost their midweek games, so the gap is down to 1 point.

Saturday you'd think is a must win game now, Sheff Wed have been hitting form in recent weeks, and Hillsborough is always tough to go to.

Overall, annoyed, but not the end of the world.

Overall its an unbeaten run of games maintained and another clean sheet. Been a good couple weeks for results, the kinda run none of us could see coming from anywhere at one point this season. As much we could of stuck the knife in and got all 3 points it also could of been we conceded one of those early chances and never come back.

It probably was the game where an out and out goal scorer could of snatched you the points but we ain't got one right now. No need to dig out any of the lads after that one. Keep going, keep the clean sheets, don't get beat. We are moving in the right direction.

My opinion for what it's worth is that the sending off changed the game for good and bad (in the frustrating way). Up until then it was all them and I was sure we were going to concede at some point. After that it was predominately all us but as each minute passed it just seemed like they were more then happy to defend more than attack and get the point. Think we were looking for that opening and people are free to say that we could have tried to mix it up a bit more but when you're trying to find that gap, pass or cross with them having all of their 10 players around and within the penalty box, it becomes frustrating. Agree that Smyth should have come on earlier as thought he was then one of the only players trying to get in behind their back line and get balls into the box. Bit disappointed with Richards with the game time that he had. To me, seemed to be making too many wrong decisions as to when to lay off a pass. At one point he tried to take it through three of their players which was never going to happen when a pass out to Dixon-Bonner or Smyth was the better option. Anyway, minor details. It's a point and another clean sheet so that's always a positive. Onwards and hopefully upwards...is the playoffs now out of the equation LOL!!!

Lets give the opposition a bit of credit here. They were better than us 11 vs 11 and completely nullified any threat we had when they went down to 10. Their defending in wide areas in particular was excellent and they squeezed us into playing back and forth in front of them to no effect.
Good job from their coach, well executed.

We were strangely off it, gave the ball away lots in dangerous positions to set-up quite a few of their attacks, which gave them confidence I think.

Kelman didn't seem comfortable out wide, I was surprised he stayed out there so long. I felt a bit sorry for him out there.

We didn't play well but we didn't lose, and kept a clean sheet again.

I am sure Marti learned quite a bit from it as well.

Gap further reduced.

Onwards and upwards.

As for Sheffield Wednesday, of course great to win, not a must win though.

Yes, disappointed with a point last night. Definitely not disappointed if we get the same on Saturday.

Odd that Kerman comes in for criticism. I thought that first half I’d have singled out a lot of others for basically coughing up possession when under no pressure whatsoever. Kelman played out of position on the right and was a willing runner and got some decent crosses in. He faded in the second but I wouldn’t write him off just yet on the basis of that game

I'm sure this point has already been made but perhaps we should acknowledge the third clean sheet in a row as a sign of the continuing progress being made.

We've only conceded 4 goals in the 7 games MC has been in charge; an enormous improvement on what went before.

I'm, disappointed too that we didn't get the win last night but if we had a 0-0 draw at Deepdale and a 2-0 win last night, we'd be in exactly the same place but I'm sure everyone would be happy with that and have taken that beforehand.

👍. 3 clean sheets in a row. I also think winning the game could of masked a poor performance, something that happened under Warburton regularly. 4 clean sheets in 7 games, mightily impressive; don't concede you can't lose, simple.

Take the point, manager learns a little more. Hopefully JCS, Cannon and Smyth back in the starting lineup for Saturday.

Lack of pace, bar Smyth and Armstrong is still a concern though. I think once Kolli is fit he'll be back on the bench.

The big thing for me now is that I genuinely feel MC will get everything possible out of this group - and as we ain't got a pot to pi55 in, that's what we need.

I hope it's enough to keep us up - gut feeling right now is that it will be.

Agreed we could do with more pace but Cannon can certainly shift when called upon.

Agreed. I watched the game and we didn't create many clear cut chances plus overall, especially before the sending off, we were a bit ragged. I don't know how we got away with a draw because in the first half, Argyle had some very good chances, with one golden opportunity spurned.

We do have creative forward players and our coaches may be able to improve our attackers to address this, but I don't feel we have anyone currently who we can *rely on* to speedily dribble past a couple of defenders into the box and score from a central position. I don't think that Lyndon, currently, can do that, Chair and Willock are dangerous but tend to operate outside or on the edge of the box, and Smyth is usually out wide. Armstrong might become that person but again, I think he's usually out wide. I don't think Kelman is even close to being able to do that yet.

It's a capability most sides would love to have and therefore much in demand and expensive to acquire, but I do feel it is something we lack. We seem to struggle to cut through the middle of teams, although we're certainly not alone on that front.

I would imagine Marti would have learnt a lot tonight, there are sadly some players who are not good enough for us.

Hopefully we can get one or two in through the door in January.

I suspect we could see the likes of Kelman etc all going on loan.

Not so sure about this.
With young players especially, I don't think that's how Marti thinks. I don't think he goes around going 'well, they're no good - need new players.' I think he thinks: They did not perform well, how can I get more out of them?

Bare bones.

Yes, but given where we sit in the table at the moment, wins against teams who are also circling the drain are more valuable than those again teams higher up the table

Having played against 10 men for an hour and not secured 3 points it's easy to understand why some are frustrated. After all, a victory would've lifted the club above the drop zone. However, those who witnessed the first 25 minutes will know that QPR were not at the races and Plymouth could, and should, have been ahead. The red card changed the tide and enabled QPR to get something out of the game. Yes, it would've been nice to secure all 3 points, but all considered a draw was fair result. We take the point and go again.

Yes last night was frustrating but when Marti came in the gap to the dotted line of safety was six points, now it’s down to one.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, we kept another clean sheet and picked up another point against a very well organised Plymouth side. A few weeks ago we were adrift in the bottom three now we are right back in with a decent shout of staying up. A lot of fans have very short memories and seem to have forgotten how poor our squad actually is in the grand scheme of things. We won't win every game and we won't play outstanding football every week, expectations need to be managed. Dykes is still Dykes whoever is in charge, he's under achieved during his whole time with us so why anyone thinks that is suddenly going to change is beyond me. And it's the same with several other players as well, Kakay etc. Long way to go in the season yet so a lot more up's n down's to come.

Thought bar the first 10/15 where he kept giving the ball away and basically gifting them chances we were better team

Just one of those nights . Kelman should have scored at the far post post in l the first half and Dykes should have done better with one of the headers.

One of the positives for me we started with a pretty weak team yet still managed to draw the game yet earlier in the season we were getting smashed at home so has to be seen as progress

Plymouth also defended very well and credit to them for that

Well I don't have a very short memory and am scarred for the rest of my life for what this club has inflicted on us for over a year at home. It is only the previous two home games that restored my sanity but last night failing to score in 70 minutes against 10 men reminded me of how clueless we can be if the oppo park the bus.

I do hope this was a blip and not the start of more misery with new manager bounce fading. With all these home games coming in January we don't want any relapse.

MC seems to have taken this on board. He mentioned having to work on the low block (which I'm guessing is the technical term for parking the bus!).

I have no idea obvs but I have more faith in his solving the conundrum than previous managers. Moving the ball quicker seems to be part of the solution???

Interesting that you mention moving the ball quicker, nix. I thought that's precisely what Plymouth did more than us. Their passing was very crisp and usually pretty accurate.

I expect us to progressively get better in this regard as the squad gets to grips with Cifuentes particular brand of positional play.

I'm annoyed with the Field booking so early In the game, so unnecessary and frustrating and virtually takes him out of the rest of the game.

This 100%
Absolutely brain dead to do that stupid pull back thing he always does , the player was going no where either , MC was dead right to take him off and because of that it left chair having to drop deeper and deeper to get the ball which is what field is supposed to do

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I was slightly dissapointed at the end last night, but after the last 18 months i can handle a 0-0 draw at home against a lively Plymouth side.

Furthermore, After Ainsworths Tenure the taste in my mouth every saturday night after yet another tonking, was like drinking Ronnie Krays steradent after leaving his false teeth in a glass following a night sucking off the meat rack in Piccadilly.

It's all clover for me at the moment under marti.

Definitely have to move the ball quicker as we are too ponderous at times. That first 20 minutes last night was as if Ainsworth was still in the dressing room just horrible viewing. It just showed to me that our mob can revert to type very easily looking wide open and again having little goal threat. I am not sure how the manager can transform our strikers into goal machines if we have no dosh to strengthen that department.

I think that's right about them learning to do this more when they get more familiar with MC's style.

We've definitely improved since the GA days but it does seem an obvious source of improvement. I do wonder whether they used to even practise passing because we went from a pretty decent passing side under Warburton and Beale, to a terrible one latterly. But even under Warburton we had a tendency of slowing the game down too much.

Fair point! I remember the PL season (the 'auguerooooo' one) where we beat the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool at home but lost to Bolton, Sunderland, Norwich and Wolves which meant we could have been relegated had Bolton got a result at Stoke on that last day. Had we just beaten Bolton at home on the opening day (instead of, say, Arsenal later on) then we'd have been already safe with the win at home to Stoke.

But then, we wouldn't have had that game at Man City as we'd probably just rolled over and got done 5-0.

I get a feeling though Plymouth won't be in the relegation mix come May so hopefully we won't rue that result.
