4G 21:47 - Sep 3 with 3202 viewspastieR

Can someone with a bit of tech knowledge please explain?
I used my phone lots to talk aboard, so anything that can speed up the connection would be a massive help.
This new 4G network, how much quicker is it?
Orange & T Mobile, insist it is on the same frequency so is available on any handset.
But carphone warhouse seem to think that the only the new iphone 5 is 4G capable

for anyone interested think i've got it.
You obviously can use the network with an old phone.
But it looks like to achieve the 30x quicker speed. You will need to wait for a 4g LTE enabled phone to be introduced.

4g has been available in a few countries but as of yet was not very successful mainly due to the lack of as you say 4g phones/ipads etc. These are essentially SIP enabled phones which is the protocol used in IMS/LTE networks. These are IP based packets switched networks unlike the current circuit switched networks. currently voice would go over 3g and data over 3g, 4g can handle both. In the long term all will go 4g as its more efficient, will cost telecoms companies less in terms of manpower and maintenance while at the same time give them more control over there customers and take back some power from companies like skype etc, quality of service will also be greatly improved. HD voice is supposed to be amazing. The migration to 4g will take time tho.
