Interesting article from Souness on how boring he sees this .
He quotes RM on saying he’s embarrassed to only be on five points but won’t change his police .
Possession stats mean nothing in reality.
Most impressive passing stats involve the ball passed in the defending third and shows most passing to be backwards or sideways .
It must be frustrating for a striker these days as they are not given the ball when they should .
We are so typical of this .
My opinion is that it is the primary reason so many home fans have walked . The fare is simply boring .
Fans want goals, excitement in front of goals . Endless sideways passing really is boring .
It’s time .

Its the way to win games.

If you launch it and chase then you win some lose some.

As Barca, Spain and Citeh/Arsenal have proven if you have the ball then the other team dont have it !

Thats the reason, not entertainment but success.

Just look at traditionally long ball Cardiff !!

Beware of the Risen People

Morning Killy.
Well,not for all it isn’t.
If you haven’t the highest standard to players, then it does not work.
Those teams you mention pass the ball forwards .

Absolutely agree with the article. Whilst we're playing well and probably above where I expected, I find us AND the modern game, bloody boring

As soon as the ball leaves your possession it is out of possession. A skilled pass with momentum is more likely to see the ball remain in your possession than an ‘Ave it’ punt into the sky.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Well,it’s a decent discussion isn’t it.
I contend that forwards bearing down on goal ,corners attacked with gusto, wingers running cowards and crossing are more exciting spectacles that seeing two three yard passes then back to the goalkeeper who then kicks the ball into touch .
That is the reality of what we do ,so often.
Possession is fine but without a final produce ,it is meaningless .
The idea of passsing is to move the ball around the field not simply hog it .Is possession is lost in @ defensive area ,then it causes real trouble at the back.

Grimes is a master of the modern game, possibly the best we have. Although he sometimes loses possession the majority of the time he recycles it and we maintain possession.

I managed to avoid mentioning his name .
Think I’ve made my point regarding Grimesy .
No need to expand here .
I am talking about football in general
I do not remember a time when football fans felt more detached from the game .

I don’t find the way we play boring. We average close to fifteen shots a game. We don’t pass it aimlessly between centre backs any more. When we do that, it’s to create a numerical advantage on one side and it invariably works.

I could understand that criticism under Russell Martin where it was often possession without purpose.

Reality is, any team playing 80s 442 with two wingers and two centre forwards would get ripped to shreds every week. Football is more cerebral now.

I've got a season ticket and I find it boring. I'm not advocating a return to the crazy gang but a winger beating his man or taking a few risks or getting a cross in would be great. Most games are pretty much the same but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Don't get me started on short goal kicks

I’ve yet to hear anyone describe the benefits of taking goal kicks like that
Invariably, the ball ends up being punted into touch as the attacking players press ,which defeats the objective of it,whoever it is .
So yes, football is mostly about goals,as rugby is about tries and cricket about scoring runs .

The last time Swans fans saw that at genuine pace we had Dyer and Routledge who in their day had they been at a different team would have been capped for England.

Britton as well.

Whatever football you want the team to play it is all about winning at the end of the day.

If the Swans did play a quick, getting the ball forward to wingers who would take on the full back and cross the ball, if that didn't end up with us scoring more than the opposition people would soon complain.

I think LW is getting the balance right. There is a bit, maybe too much, faffing about with short goal kicks. But generally the ball is being moved quicker especially recently since Liam has been playing deeper. As soon as he receives the ball his head is up and he plays it quickly. The difference that quick ball, when played accurately, makes is incredible.

Sharp crisp one touch football around the opinion box is what everyone wants. Swansea players have not been trained to head the ball properly. Cullen demonstrates this every week.

There is no point putting in high balls if there is no one to head the ball. Williams sent the only forward who can head the ball to Scotland to hopefully improve and get games.

Josh Thomas cannot get on the bench for Bromley some weeks.

Possession alone doesn't win games as Russell Martin has so ably proved.

You still need to get the ball forward, get into the oppo's third and at least shoot at goal. Having 70% possession but only 2-3 shots at goal (as did happen under Martin) is pathetic.

You don't shoot you don't score.
