Average age of squad 21:14 - Jun 15 with 1209 views | GRIM | It would appear that the owners have changed their policy of signing young players with potential. Apart from Harwood Bellis all the players we've signed or are looking to sign are over 30 years old. Are we starting a walking football team.

Average age of squad on 08:32 - Jun 16 with 1026 views | SaintNick | Sport Republic never had a policy of just signing young players with potential, when Rasmus Ankersen was at Brentford, he signed experience as well as potential. In 22/23 season, their first owning the club in a transfer window they signed Joe Aribo, Caleta-Car, Orsic, Onuachu & James Bree, all players in their mid to late 20's. The season just gone saw 4 permanent signings , Lumley, Manning & Stewart were all mid 20's + only Shea Charles was a youngster, We signed 5 players on loan, again Downes, Brookes, Fraser & Rothwell were all mid 20's + and only Harwood-Bellis was a youngster and even he 21 when he signed had around 90 League games to his name. We signed a good balance in 22/23 in terms of age, it could be said that what let us down was not the youngsters, but the 5 experienced players. Last season we already had a lot of youngsters in the squad, so of the 9 players who joined us in 23/24 only one was a youngster.

What you are saying is partly true. However the 2223 summer we signed Baz, larios, Edozie , Bele-Kotcha, Lavia, Mara and Stewart. Clearly our policy was to buy young players and sell on. The majority of the panicked experience signings came when we in trouble in January. The mistake they made was buying experienced players that had no premier league experience and were not good enough. It does look like the owners have learnt their lesson

Spot on Butty (apart from Stewart who signed in summer of 24 & is not exactly young). But previously we were poaching young players with potential ( including Broja on loan) until it was obvious that these youngsters could not keep us in Premier lge. Hence we panicked & bought older players in an attempt to keep us up & then to get us back into Premier lge. But it does look as if we are now going for players with Premier lge experience (albeit either past their best or possibly not good enough). Let's hope the experienced players can do enough to keep us up & help our youngsters develop.

In the season of 2022/23, we signed I think 12 players, 5 of them experienced and 7 youngsters. of the youngsters, Lavia obviously was a success and so was Bella Kotchap when fit and to a lesser degree Edozie. The point is that since Sport Republic have taken over they have looked to get a balance between experienced and youngsters of varying levels of development. This season saw the balance more heavily towards experience and so fa this window it looks to be the same. NB not sure that Stewart can be classed a youngster, he was 27 when he signed with 180 League games to his name

Did you read my reply we are basically agreeing. How can you say Bella Kotcha was a success ? He started off well , but massively tailed off. The fact he spent this season in a jong side n Holland, shows how far his stock has fallen. We will once again be looking at a loss on a player. Edozie a moderate success really?? Stewart was a keeper we signed from Everton , not the injury prone sunderland striker. I’ve never heard of the Brentford player, but getting bodies in like that dosent mean the squad is stronger and is he going to block one of the youngsters.

Bella - Kotchap started the season well before he got injured in 2022/23 and had a good spell later in the season when he played in the wins over Chelsea & Leicester& the draws against Man Utd & Tottenham, he showed promise and lets be honest he was surrounded by plenty of players underperforming. Its not quite right he played for Jong PSV, he played in the first team at PSV a few times before a shoulder injury that kept him out for 4 months, when he came back he played 3 comeback games for Jong PSV and then spent the rest of the season on the 1st team bench, coming off it just once. Yes his stock has fallen, but it is down to injury, he is undoubtably a good player but he has a dodgy shoulder, if he comes back and gets his head down he could be a good asset next season. Jak Stewart was an 18 year old free transfer after leaving Everton, he can hardly be described as a poor signing, he was nowhere near the first team. With regard the Brentford playe, it is about having experience, if a youngster is good enough then he won't block him
