I see Mass scored the winner against Bristol City. It's only his third goal for Wednesday but each time he's scored it's been the match decider. Efficient.
Apparently they average far more points with him in the team than without and he has become very popular there. I rated him, couldn't get my head round what his critics were seeing.

Yeah, I rated him, too, and I thought the club treated him shabbily. But then, so did the Australian national set-up, so he might have been getting used to it.
His goal was a bit like some of the goals he got for us when Matt Smith was doing the knockdowns from corners. Nahki Wells also scored for Bristol City.
I quite liked him but have to presume that he wanted too much money and had a better offer on the table from Wednesday than what we could offer him. Shame as him & Ball in CM would have been a rather tidy partnership.

I think sometimes a idea of what a player is like becomes canon no matter how much evidence to contrary there is. Luongo made the more successful tackles than anyone else in the division for two years in a row and people still said he didn’t make an impact. No amount OPTA statistics would change their minds. Eze and his laziness another example, and Mackie having no ability. People make out Mackie was just piss and thunder but I saw him go past people using quick feet all the time.

The thought of Ball and Luongo never really occurred to me. Quite fancy that.
I liked Luongo, but there were simply too many stretches of games where he was invisible. I can see why a lot of fans didn't rate him.

Mass always gave 100% for us as he does for his country. More than you could say for our current midfield. If he played for England you’d all be singing Land of Hope and Glory and waxing lyrical about how wonderful it is for an R to represent his country.

I can't see Luongo playing for the Socceroos ever again. He was recalled to the squad for the Nepal game under Arnold last year but did not get on the pitch.
Jeez, I miss Ange Postecoglou. Under him, an Asian Cup for us (player of the tournament and a Ballon d'Or nomination for Mass) as well as the World Cup qualification but gits like Foster and Bosnich (yeah, the fat tvvat with the white nose who was sniffing around Loftus Road) just couldn't get off his case. Ange showed them when he went to Yokohama in the J League and in one season got them their first premiership since 2004 while our World Cup under van Marwijk just fizzled out to nothing (yep, Luongo never got off the bench).

Agree. Ange is the only national team coach who ever won anything - Asian Cup.
Hadn't he made it clear he wanted to leave so Warburton gave that the OK but didn't want him with the first team squad if he wasn't going to play
Not that I heard. And didn't they put him back in the first team training when it looked like a sale might not come through? Doesn't sound like he had attitude problems.
Really? Frozen out at the start of the season and sent to train with the U23s because he wouldn't sign a cheaper contract?

He wasn’t forced to leave either, he made the choice to leave. Hardly any footballer is treated badly these days as them and their parasitic agents hold all the power.
Wouldn't say he was poorly treated. Club not being in the position they'd hoped they would be and therefore unable to offer him a new deal on existing/increased wage is an inevitable consequence of our period of austerity and relatively low league finishes (and the fact the wider Championship wage situation is financially fcked and unsustainable).
I am biased as I was a frequent defender and big fan of Luongo but we have missed him. Amos has disappointed and Mass was exactly the sort of versatile no.8 we could've done with this year. For my money he's better than any of our current CM options. Defence has been a mess, especially at set pieces but holding 2 in midfield has been a problem too. Luongo's engine and tackling ability would be an asset and for all the talk about international breaks etc. he still managed 150 games in 4 seasons.
Not sure about Mackie 2.0 having quick feet. He was like one of the old Fifas where you can only run in 4 different directions.

He had a year left on his contract and the club go to him and say 'sign a cheaper contract or we'll sell you while we can still make some money on you' (I am assuming; again, tell me if you know something different) and then send him to the naughty step when he doesn't jump to it.
Zero hour contracts are irrelevant. I'd disagree that he hasn't been missed but that's also irrelevant. He left after the club tried to muscle him into a pay cut and I wouldn't blame him for that. I agree that the money in football is stupid but his original contract was agreed by both sides. Yeah, I'll stick with shabby.
