Line up is difficult to call, 5 at the back?

Sanchez
Matheson MJ O'Connell RND Keohane
Camps Ryan Dooley
Hendo Alby

Or maybe Matheson on the wing?

Not really as its only drawing their forwards onto us,doesn't really influence their back line for the inevitable hoof it when we run out of options to pass it anyway

Hang on isn't such a tactic asking for trouble because if it doesn't go to plan the ball is given away to an opposition attacker in a very dangerous position

I don't necessarily object to passing it out from the back as a philosophy - but surely there has to be some dynamic thinking as to when it gets applied?
The Newcastle players were obviously quicker than the ones we usually play against, and were putting us under pressure every time we tried to play it out. This inevitably would lead to mistakes, which given their players quality, could be better capitalised on. Which is why the third goal came as no surprise to anyone.
Winning games surely isn't about sticking to a system week in week out but tailoring the system to best suit, and beat, whoever the opposition is you are playing?
I was also frustrated by how often at SJP we passed it around from the back only to get into their final third and just give the ball away completely under little pressure. Kind of made the whole build up totally pointless.
All in all - I'm happy we got to go and its another ground ticked off. League status is more important.

Generally the whole team push up, giving our 'better players' (midfield and attack)more space if they get the ball. Rathbone's saved shot in the second half of the first leg was a great example of how us passing it from the back gives the opportunity for us to suddenly attack their defence with great numbers and bypassing the midfield who had pushed up. Obviously it's frustrating watching the defence gift goals away at times but when it works it works well. Kicking the ball long after being pressurised would sort of defeat the reason we're doing it.

Just a thought but maybe he doesn't just boot it upfield because his manager doesn't want him to.

Could you do me a favour and tell that to the people who go to matches? I’m tired of hearing people berate Sanchez every time he doesn’t long-ball it. He’s not passing it about for fun, he’s clearly under instruction to do that.

"gives the opportunity for us to suddenly attack their defence with great numbers a"... I must have missed all of this most games I've seen then, I generally see very slow over passing build up play, gaining the opposition plenty of time to set, resulting in Hendo having to drop that deep in search of the ball theres bugger all up front when he finally gets hold of it.

"Kicking the ball long after being pressurised would sort of defeat the reason we're doing it." When you are outnumbered by faster superior footballers you will always be pressurised, you end up with 2 options either lose the ball or.....wallop it

They all must go to the same Pep coaching school trying to reinvent the fooking wheel!!
