Mayweather v Mcgregor 23:09 - Jun 14 with 7267 viewsAquinas

Confirmed. Horrible news.

The only positive is that it will show all the blinkered UFC fans how hard it is to land when fighting an actual boxer (at the lower weights). So many people on twitter saying something along the lines of 'Conor has overcome the odds before, he can do it again'.

Sadly, if Mcgregor hurts Mayweather in any way I will instantly assume that the fight is fixed. There is no way Mayweather gets through 12 rounds with Canelo with ease and struggles against Conor.

Ridiculous.
Mayweather will box his head off and take the piss for as many rounds as the TV company want him too, then...
I won't be paying for that one.

Interesting fight. Lets not forget McGregor was a boxer and got most of his knockouts in UFC through his stand up exchanges.

Yes this should be an absolute one sided affair with the skills of Mayweather, but I wouldn't count out Conor completely. If (and that is a big if) he lands his massive left on Mayweathers jaw - it could be lights out.

Having said that, I will say 6th round Mayweather KO. Similar sort of fight to Hatton v Mayweather. McGregor to come out all guns blazing, realising that Mayweather is too elusive, knackering himself out and then getting caught with a decent enough punch as his guard drops.

Poll: 6 point deduction and sellouts lose all their cash?

It saddens me that contact sport has become a pantomime, especially as so many brave men and women risk their lives in the ring each week. I think we can all agree that neither Conor or Floyd will risk any type of injury in the upcoming fight. In fact, there will probably be a rematch clause in the event of a split decision (which it almost certainly will be, I doubt the 'judges' will even be licensed).

Neither fighter cares about their respective sports, they only care about the money. Barry's own Andrew Selby recently said after winning his fight - 'imagine how good i'd be if I actually enjoyed boxing'. We are never going to see the likes of Gatti v Ward or the passion of Ricky Hatton etc if the boxers have no interest in the profession itself.

As mentioned when it first was in the pipeline, the only way McGregor wins is KO early. Regardless of what people think, I watch a lot of MMA , he hits hard, and fast, if he can connect, he can cause problems. However, heavier gloves and a fighter who is notoriously untouchable , only really been clipped heavily a dozen times in his career, makes it difficult. Mayweather may be rusty though, although I doubt it as he trains like a machine.

A points win, or stoppage after 6 is what I can see the likely outcome to be for Mayweather.

Another thing I feel, is that McGregor will last longer in a boxing match between the two than Mayweather would in an MMA fight. Although it is a freak show and all about the big pay day, McGregor does not shy away from a challenge.

Would love to see McGregor stone cold KO him, but I seriously doubt he will be able to land many significant punches.

For the very fact it p*sses off boxing fans, I'd love McGregor to win this. It shouldn't happen but as long as he's in the ring, it can happen.

Mayweather coasted through his last 10 or 12 fights. Cleverly picked. I'm no fan of either, so can't claim to know what I'm on about, but would love to see Mcgregor piledrive Mayweather and then do him with the Kimura lock until a little bit of poop comes out

Certainly be funny.

Watched an outlaw fight between a boxer and an MMA fighter online awhile back. It was solely stand up striking rules. The MMA man knocked the guy down , forgot the rules and got the boxer in a rear naked, causing the boxer to visibly piss himself as he got choked out in record time. He was even shocked that he lost via dq.

Would be hilarious if something like that happened.

I've got a can of Dulux emulsion that I will open on fight night and plaster it on my north facing wall. Deckchair and beer very nearby.

See, that's why MMA is inferior.

You drop your opponent once and you get to punch, kick, knee, elbow and choke him on the floor....it seems to me that the fight hinges on who gets the opportunity to do this first.

In boxing you drop your opponent, he gets 10-15 seconds to get up and clear his head...and then you go again.
It strikes me that a boxer with a long win record with a lot of KOs did a lot more to earn that record.

Mayweather will judge the distance between the 2 perfectly, will wheel ant-clockwise (left) to reduce the risk of being caught with a big left.
He knows that McGregor will have to steam forward and look to land the left-hook.
Mayweather will counter-punch when the opportunity arises.
He will be in control and will pick his shots, in and out.
Boxing is a skill.
McGregor will be naked in there.
It will be embarrassing for McGregor if Mayweather wants it to be.

Two different skill types, same with kick boxing, muay Thai, greco wrestling, BJJ, etc. All by themselves are talents, to mix them together is difficult.

I find a BJJ /jiu-jitsu or grappling fight, hold equally as much skill, sometimes more than a boxing match. Then again I enjoy all combat sports. I'm interested jyst nime I was in the way Toney took on Couture, we kind of knew the outcome beforehand, but interesting to see how it pans out. I'll probably watch it, if not on the night, on re-run.

Think you are getting mixed up with Kovalev v Ward.

I'd go along with that. Would love to see Macgregor do it, but I can't see past a late stoppage or landslide points win for Mayweather.

Can see this being quite exciting for the first few rounds, then petering out into a slow, predictable fight as Macgregor tires and it becomes easier for Mayweather to avoid damage and pick shots. I'd love to be wrong though.

Mayweather win on points or Mcgregor win by knockout for me. Mayweather isn't a ko specialist and McGregor is used to taking shots to the face.

You can't have watched much then. In the UFC (and most UK organisations) there are no kicks or knees once an opponent is down. And the fight rarely ends the first time the fight goes to the ground.

You say boxing is a skill as if being an MMA fighter requires none. Sure, none of them are technically as good at boxing as the top boxers. But then they are also skilled in a number of other disciplines.

I still think Mayweather can and will do the business, but I think you are selling MMA fighters short generally.

Mayweather could school McGregor with his eyes closed but he's more a businessman than a boxer these days. given the money being talked about I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ends up being a 2-1 trilogy.
