Marvin Emnes 00:33 - Apr 21 with 16193 viewsLiberty

Some players need a lucky break when it comes to their career.

Think for the short time he has been with us, 2 loan periods, he has done enough to get a 3 year deal.

Made a big impact in the short time he has been given on both occasions, winner against Cardiff last time around and now he just helped keep us in prem. Relatively cheap and Monk believes in him.

Sign him up. Only 25, plenty more to come I reckon.

Poll: League 2 Mod , Darr, but we are now in Prem - time for a change ?

Earlier in the season i said we should offer lamah a contract as a back up wing option. Since emnes has come in, he has very much taken that mantle of offering something different, so i am very much in favour of offering him terms of a 1 year contract with an option of another year, give him something to perform for. He seems to enjoy himself and i believe he has had a positive impact on our season since coming.

Emnes has quite a few plus points for me and one is that he seems to have good upper body strength for a relatively small guy and is not easy to knock off the ball when running with it and that cannot be said about some of our other attacking options - Pozuelo, for example, seems to ride a tackle like a girl!

Some are saying he's contributed more when he's come on than either Vasquez, Lita or Schecter would, I'd say he contributes more that Vasquez, Lita & Schecter would together!

It's not just these last 2 games though, I though Emnes had a good game out in Napoli too.

He's done enough to stay this time. I was a bit sceptical when we resigned him because other than his goal against Cardiff, his first loan was a bit poor but this time he's come on and changed games for us.

I seem to recall him coming on as a sub against Leicester when we were struggling to get a breakthrough and he definitely changed that game, think we won 2-0 in the end with both goals in the last 10 minutes. So it wasn't just his goal against Cardiff although that is probably all he will be remembered for in his first spell.

There will be plenty of back tracking re Emnes if we resign him for next season.

Now we are safe in Prem, the sooner contracts get sorted one way or other the better.

Need to sort- in no particular order,
Emnes
Williams- only 1 yr left
De Guzman
Ki- only 1 yr left.

Last but not least Garry. I assume once Garry is appointed ( 90 % certain he will be) all the others will be sorted.

The thing I have loved about the Swans, particularly in the last 10 years, is their ability to pick up bargain signings and watch their careers blossom under our development team/manager. We too k a punt on the likes of Rangel, Bodde, Williams, Pratley, Scotland, Britton, Trundle etc. More recently, Vorm, Michu, Taylor and even Bony seems to be the player that the experts are saying everyone missed out on.
Christ we gave a trial to your mate, Andy Robinson, a player who had been playing for Cammel Laird & he was instrumental in partnering Trundle in the earlier years of the Swansea City rise.
I just love it when it comes off.
When we signed Ngog & Emnes, despite it being a tad embarrassing at the time, I still hoped that we'd find yet another inspired bargain amongst them.
Ngog has disappeared without trace but Emnes for me has potential.
We still talk about the 'Monk £90million block tackle' at Wembley. What price can you put on Emnes's run into the box to win the injury time penalty at Newcastle?
That penalty changed everything for us.
The only danger for me is Emnes reverting to his reputation (at other clubs) of not giving a feck. What have we got to lose? Give him a one season contract to keep him on his toes.
And... for you oldies. Do you remember Cloughie used to do this just as well... Kenny Burns, John Robertson, Tony Woodcock...

Not to mention Roy Keane, Garry Birtles, Martin O'Neill, Larry Lloyd, etc.

Cloughie made European Champions out of a team of relative unknowns by adding Trevor Francis to the mix and while we will never win the Champions League, I think there are definite parallels between his teams and ours. I know it shouldn't but it still surprises me that so many non-Jacks I meet know so much about our players but they have all become household names in the same way that Cloughie's unknowns did 30 odd years ago and it always fills me with immense pride.

Has anybody thought that Middlesborough will wish to retain Emnes services unless we pay a substantive transfer fee. We can do much better.

I wouldn't say Francis turned them into European Champions.

Forest had reached the European Cup final without Francis as he was ineligible to play up until the semi final but was not picked. The final, against Malmo, was his first European game, coming in for Martin O'Neill. True he scored the winner but Forest had already beaten Liverpool and Cologne on the way so the hard work had been done without him.

I would say Shilton was the biggest change that Clough made conceding just 18 goals in 37 league matches, fantastic to watch for those of us old enough to remember.

Sky have been showing Football's Greatest Teams this week and one of them was about Forest in the late seventies, great stuff.

One swallow doesn't make a summer,Emnes is not good enough as a long term PL player,we have suffered this season with players who are just not of PL standard we shouldn't fall into that trap again. If Norwich go down or even if they stay up a player like Snodgrass would be ideal for us,scores goals, never gives up and can put his foot in when required. Also takes a mean free kick.

I'd take Redmond off their hands too!

Now that would be a quality addition

I didn't say Francis turned them into European Champions, my point was that he wasn't an unknown when Cloughie signed him, he was already an established top division player and household name whereas most of the rest of his team were not.

Given the general nature of his performances for them over the last couple of years I doubt they'll fight too hard to hang onto him.

Emnes and bony i think could really do well together

Marvin Emnes on 08:51 - May 3 with 1119 viewsPrivate_Partz

I doubt Midds could hang on to Marvin even if he had a year left of his contract if the player wants the move. We have seen it many times with players wanting out. The pull of the Prem would be too great. I can hardly ever recall a bad performance by Marvin when he has played for us. Most of us wanted to sign him after his first spell and were peed off as Midds wanted loads of dosh.
His form has been patchy for them but I feel he was in the wrong club and maybe he can add consistency here to go with his obvious talents.
A one, or even a two year contract, with an option to extend for me.

What a goal today, the touch, turn and finish.

If this guy doesn't get a contract then I would be stunned.

Great team performance today and 3 brilliant goals, one of our best away performances of the season.

Add to that he tackeled mid field and in defense and created Bony's goal.
For me it was a "complete" performance.

How much do you think he's worth? I think between £1M and £10M now. More if he scores more goals and assists next season.

Fair play to Emnes, lovely goal today and showed enough in recent games to show he's an upgrade on Lamah for the squad filler position.

Deserves a contract. Looked a far better and more effective player during this spell than he did the first time he was here.
