Dunfermline have been in limbo, like a host of other Scottish clubs, while the Rangers situation was being resolved.
They were unsure as to whether or not they would be handed a reprieve from relegation, therefore they haven't known whether they would be offering SPL or SFL contracts for the coming season. Dundee were in the same boat.
Both clubs have had to adjust very quickly - which has seen a swarm of trialists come in.
It's a shambles of the highest order.

When this friendly was played isn't mentioned, but Saturday, the 22nd, seems likely. So SJ wasn't among the 22 players in Austria. He might have preferred to play in Scotland as a trialist, rather than having been told he wasn't going on the trip. Either way it seems he'll not pull on another Dale shirt.
