Breaking !!!!! SFC Sack Manager 13:50 - Mar 12 with 547 viewsSaintNick

The full details arent through yet but this statement has just been released by the club, more to follow.

Southport Football Club can today confirm that they have parted ways with first-team manager Jim Bentley and first-team coach Alan Morgan.

Jim took over the club with the side rooted to the bottom of the National League North and turned the club’s fortunes around, steering us to a comfortable 16th place finish safely above the relegation zone.

The Board of Directors would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Jim and Alan for their dedication and professionalism during their time at the club.

Club Chairman Peter Mitchell said: “On behalf of everyone at Southport FC, I would like to express our gratitude to Jim and Alan for their hard work and commitment. They have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism throughout Jim’s tenure, and we wish both every success in their future endeavours. “

The Men’s First Team will be overseen by David Morgan as the club undertakes the process of appointing a new management team which we hope to conclude as soon as possible. Any enquiries regarding the position should be directed to club COO Andy Burgess on andy.burgess@southportfc.net

I like that they have put contact details for applications.

I think Portsmouth did similar after they sacked Cowley, befitting their status as a small club.

I sent off an application, listing all my relevant attributes and qualifications. Oh the fun I could have had…..

But their CEO Andrew Cullen never replied.

The coont.

Got a mate who used to apply for all the managerial positions in the late 80's and throughout the 90's.

He never used to get many replies from clubs - understandable when his managerial experience was limited to Basingstoke Sunday League Div 5 and 6 (he won Div 6) - but he did get a really nice 'unsuccessful' reply from the Welsh FA regarding their vacancy for National Team Manager. It sits proudly in a frame, on the wall behind the bar in his man cave. :-)

I applied for the Saints manager job after Dave Merrington was released in 1996.

I sent off a 4-page application letter, including all the dates I was unavailable for an interview, due to taking job-related exams.

I received a reply in the post back from Brian Truscott, which said:

"Thank you for your application for First Team Manager. You will have noted the appointment of Graeme Souness."

Which I look back on as a polite way of him telling me to fook off.

Sounds like decent credentials for a club down the Eastern end of the M27

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......
