Were there 2 special trains that day Nick?, as I went on one and arrived in plenty of time. The only other time time I went on a football special train was to West Brom in 1979 (I think) where we had the whole end, about 10000. Did we have any other football special trains 70/80's?, can't remember. Only time I've arrived really late was Norwich away Aug 78, coaches left around 8 and didn't get there till just before HT, due to traffic and driver not knowing where the ground was.

I think there might have been , I can remember specials going to lots of the cup games and some League games, West Brom & Bradford in 1976, Forest 1977, Brighton in 78 & again in 82, Birmingham City in 1980 & Leicester in about 82 to name a few

Yes it was a memorable day. Proud to be a Saints fan that day. Can’t find any article, video or anything about it anywhere which a shame.
Forest 3 Saints 3 on 10:01 - May 12 with 1782 views | Letissier2398 | Remember it well, travelled up with a coach load from Totton College, great atmosphere and we did have the whole of the Trent end if I remember correctly from nearly 46 years ago First ever away game was the WBA Cup tie in 1976 when we had a similar number at the Hawthorns [Post edited 12 May 2023 10:04]

Yes, l was on that special to Wimbledon for the cup game, forgot about that one, plenty of Chelsea fans about that night and Saints fans lighting a bonfire on the terrace, (or did I just make that bit up?) Also now remember being on the special to Brighton 78, got on after drinking at that pub at Netley station, houses now l think (didn't have to show ID them days), running battles that day.
