What a story this is.

She had to go through three qualifying matches to make the main draw, and she’s now in the US Open final without dropping a single set.

Let’s hope she wins it.

Yes quite an achievement , really strikes the ball cleanly & still has potential to improve over the next few years , a bright future indeed .

Yes, it's the style of play and attitude that really catches the eye. Super confident and rarely flustered. The way she handles the big points belies her years. Very promising future ahead.

She has been superb and it's one in the eye for Piers Morgan who stupidly had a pop at her after her Wimbledon exit

He's now saying he's vindicated because she worked on her mental toughness since. What a tool he is.

Anyway, really well done to Emma. She was a bit of a wunderkind as a junior but had quite a lot of injuries, which is quite common among teens because of the strain it puts on growing joints and muscles. She took time out then to do her A levels and just to grow!

So it's not completely out of the blue. She's been managed superbly. Nigel Sears, Andy Murray's FiL was her coach for a while and he's coached some top women players. She's clearly had some sports psychology and media training since Wimbledon.

Having said that, I don't think anyone would have expected her to reach this level so quickly. It's phenomenal and she deserves every credit.

Just watched the highlights and while she is ia a briliant player its her lovely attitude that you see right away.Fierce determination too but she plays with a freedom and such a joy I hope she can win it all now.
Her opponent is superb too and plays with a very similiar attitude and desire so its going to be a battle of nerves that decides it I believe

She's so likeable.

Even if she doesn't win it what an achievement.

Ah the lovely Jelena Dokic

Raducanu has just outplayed every opponent she has faced this tournament: has the ability to return most serves she has faced and has the confidence to mix up her shots during rallies and has no fear in taking on risky winners.
Her opponent has similar attributes so the final should be great.

Got up to watch it live like several others and Radacanu was incredibly impressive, both in her composure and level of performance.
But because it started so late I also saw a lot of Fernandez v Sabalenka in the previous semi and the level of play produced by these two was scarily good. One thing that looks clear is that if Emma is going to beat Leylah Fernandez she is going to have to raise her game to a yet higher level than even what she has reached so far because Fernandez gives absolutely nothing away and there will almost no freebies from unforced errors in the way she was gifted them by Sakkari.

I have watched and played tennis for years and never known anything like this

Her level has improved so dramatically but most importantly as she says below, she is able to maintain it throughout a match. So often you see lesser ranked players raise their level and take a few games or even a set off of a top player and then fade and lose. Not the case here at all, she is the real deal and tactically very astute as well

This is what she said after the semi final

“I personally think inside I knew I had some sort of level inside of me that was similar to these girls, but I didn’t know if I was able to maintain it over a set or over two sets. To be able to do it and play the best players in the world and beat them, I honestly can’t believe it.”

As for the retirement at Wimbledon, there are a few so called experts and observers with egg on their faces!

From the little I know of the Wimbledon retirement she had real issues with dehydration that day with an underline viral issue, non-covid, so there was nothing she could do but retire that day.

I think there was huge expectation she would be this good but not for a few more years.

Never knowingly right.

There may have been a bit of humour there, which you missed completely.

Very grounded in her interviews as well, actually booked her flight home two weeks ago as she didn’t think she would get this far. Seems a very likeable and talented young lady.

If you can't watch it live, Prime have 'replays' that you can watch any time. That's what I did and avoided tv phone and pc so I didn't know the result in advance.

Wow. That is so weird and aggressive. I wasn't suggesting any posters on here were being racist. My post was a joke at the expense of the anti-immigration lobby in general (and perhaps Priti Patel in particular).

(E17hoop posted a similar thought later on in the thread, but doesn't seem to have been attacked as much as me. Maybe because he spelled out - as if that were needed - that it was irony.)
