The science block at King Edward’s was named after Sir EP Abraham; I think he paid for it. It looked the same when I went past on Saturday so I hope it still is. He did fantastic work providing alternatives to penicillin ( or something like that). |  |

Southampton firm 'Gordon Brothers' were geniuses for their development of the first spinnaker sail, it was that good that portsea island named their most iconic structure after it. They must love us down there.
"Thomas “Dutch” Diaper (1839-1902) was one of the most successful captains of the mid nineteenth century. Together with William Gordon, of Gordon Brothers, Southampton sail makers, he is credited with the development of the first spinnaker sail which made it’s debut on the NIOBE under “Dutch” Diaper’s command in June 1865" [Post edited 12 Mar 2020 21:53]
