Iāve fully come to terms with the fact that we are lucky to get any points this season and any losses or poor performances are down to individual error, lack of budget or the fans or any other assorted form of scape goat. So letās enjoy the fact that we have taken anything from todayās game. Life is much better as a pragmatist.

'Only happy when you've got it often makes you miss the journey'
I think the most concerning thing is that we never used to be so vulnerable defensively (especially from set pieces) under the very same manager that we have at the helm now.
Of course, the personnel is vastly different and KH has changed (evolved??) since then but you could argue that we have a better all round squad than we've ever had in any of his spells in charge and seeing that he recruits the players, there's really no excuse for it...

Have to agree with TVOS - Iāll always take a point at Scunny, at half-time I thought there was no chance of getting a point.
+ from the game - Rathbone - quality, Gillam did well and deserved his slice of luck, Hart despite a couple of rash challenges offered more going forward than Done has recently. Wilbraham despite missing that late sitter looked sharper and caused problems, Calvin seemingly won every header
- from the game - set pieces! Mc Nulty lost Novak for the first, diabolical for the second and stupidity for the third. Every team must be watching at the moment and saying, get crosses in, earn set pieces, weāll score. Despite a couple of very good saves Iām still not convinced by Norman, he doesnāt dominate the area enough for me.

Agree with all that, but while not blaming Norman for any of the Scunny goals, lets hope Lillis is back sooner rather than later.

After a shaky start, I like the look of Norman. Whether he's any better than Josh is debatable but not dominating his area is the exact same knock everyone has against Lillis as well.

That seems a fair assessment of what I saw, too.
I would say that while Calvin won the vast majority of his headers, the second ball wasnāt picked up as much in the first half as it was in the second. Very Much more to do with how we were trying to play than any fault of Andrewās.
I was perhaps too harsh on Hartās performance, too, basing my overall assessment on his first half showing, where he was caught out of position and gave away possession. In the second half, he got forward effectively, although itās hard to say whether that was easier for him due to Scunthorpe sitting back more. His shot led to our first goal and his crosses, while some were a bit too deep, did cause problems. Iād like to see more of him, for sure.
I completely agree with your assessment of our set price vulnerability, too, and how it will be marked by opposition teams.

Seriously who are you hoping to replace Hill with?
You could try and actually go to an away game and support the lads.
You definitely need a new hobby on a Saturday afternoon.
Who would you replace 'X' with must be one of the most overused, unoriginal and silly arguments on this board.
My view is that Hill is in a malaise, he's run out of ideas and seems unable to address the issues the supporters see. He has earned the right at this football club to keep going for now. All that being said there are plenty of other managers out there capable of having us compete in the division. He isn't irreplaceable and maybe the next manager will treat the club and fans with less contempt.

There is a saying - careful what you wish for.
7 games in and because we defend poorly for 2 goals he calls for Hills sacking.
Defence is a work in progress agreed but FFS every post anti hill is so grinding.
We are 13th - unbeaten in 4 away games and above a host of bigger clubs who after 7 games look to have even bigger problems than we have.
23 years???? You would have thought any supporter that deep into Dale supporting life would be made of sterner stuff.
Great second half performance showing plenty of character to get back into a game - we actually could have taken all 3 points at the end.

Not missed an away game this season, so that blows that argument out of the window.
Maybe if you go to away games you 'll see our defence haven't go a clue who to mark at set pieces, this had been happening for over 2 seasons now. I could go on and on about our defending, and that falls on the manger, his players, his tactics.Keith hasn't go a clue how to solve our defending issues, hence why blames everybody else but himself.

7 games in it's been going on for 2+ seasons.
It was a great second half performance, but we can't score 2/3 goals every game to have a chance of a draw or even to win a game.
We could lose every game as long as signs of improvement, but there's no improvement in our defensive performance, and that buck stops with the manager.

Keith hill isn't irreplaceable
Iām on the verge of being in the Hill our club. What other fanbase, club or board of directors would put up with a manager bad mouthing the fans (who are in the main not showing any criticism) itās unacceptable. The same voices saying āWho else are we going to get, look whatās he has done etcā would be the same voices saying āwho else can get us upā if we went down to league two. The fact is there is always a few people who will make excuses for him.

Anytime he mentions supporters it doesnāt make me think heās any less suitable to be our manager, because itās so pointless. Weāre all used to it, it doesnāt affect how the majority believe heās crucial to the overall future of the club on the pitch and itās so easy to make whatās often said look a bit silly.
It was talked about here on Friday, Hillās interviews are often interesting, youād think heād know by now what subjects are better to discuss.
Iām absolutely not in the āHill out clubā, but some of the points being made by the āHill out clubā are valid if viewed with a more tempered mindset.

Just watched the goals on Goals Express (recorded)
I tried watching as if i were a disinterested fan, and purely from that perspective there was nothing about Scunny's first and last goals that you don't see week in week out being scored against all teams
Their second is obviously annoying but the first of it's type (i think) this season; so again, nothing that should be taken as evidence of some long-term failing
Fans of every team probably feel their defence is useless. The point i made earlier about Scunny fans possibly having more reason to be annoyed with their defence tonight still stands
We have conceded the most goals in league one, a stat shared with Scunthorpe . Last year people banged on about our defence, whereas in reality it was lack of goals that was the issue. This season we have been ripped apart by two very good teams, and two very average ones

That can't be a good club to be in.
Whilst on the subject of clubs did we ever establish who is in the 'football people' club?
And is it worth resurrecting the possibility of playing Calvin at CB to make us less vulnerable to us being bombarded? Give him the job of attacking anything launched into our box. He would also be available to go forward for set pieces.
Got a text from a Scunthorpe supporting friend who said āwas fair result. You might have nicked it but we should not have sat back as we just canāt defend this season. Honours even.ā A point at Scunthorpe is good and seeing the youngsters score is excellent for the future. I reckon the supporters of most clubs believe they canāt defend and always need a central defender and goal scorer! We are doing well in league one. Letās enjoy it.

With Delaney to come back, we've got the height to deal with an aerial bombardment anyway. The problem seems to be specifically that we just cannot deal with set pieces launched into our box and Calvin is already present when defending these.

Interesting point. I think I said earlier on this thread that Iād be a bit peeved if I were a Scunthorpe fan at the way they sat back second half.
Due to the distance between home and Rochdale the first 3 games I saw last season were all 0 - 0 draws. Home to Bury, and away to Southend and Wimbledon. 2 of the 3 were as dull as ditch water.
I am a simple man and have a simple view that I like to watch Rochdale win, or at least score in a game.
So while like many I hold my breathe when the opposition put in a cross, at least this year the club are giving us something to moan about and cheer about in most games.
Iāll take yesterday over ditch water all season long.
