What do we do now though?.......sit back or attack attack attack?

We have a plan B with Wilbraham and itās worked. I donāt share D23yearsā view about Hill one bit, but the plan B doesnāt conceal the atrocious defending, sadly.

Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:00 - Sep 8 with 2910 views | fitzochris | Full time and Iād like to say an entertaining game but sadly it was more frustrating. Some of the most inept defending Iāve seen from us, raising serious questions about just what we do on the training pitch. On top of that, ponderous inept attacking made us look a bit toothless. Then, enter plan B and we are like a totally different proposition. We shouldāve won it in the end and thatās why the poor defending is so bloody annoying. [Post edited 8 Sep 2018 17:12]

Really bad miss after a great step over from Calvin. Rathbone man of the match, much better again when we throw caution to the wind like at Middlesbrough. Giving away free kicks that we can't defend isn't really worth discussing as it's clear not much has been done over the last couple of years to sort it. Verdict: good point. Awful kit choice.

Positives - still unbeaten away and a point is a point. Great for Ollie and Gillam to get on the score sheet. Negatives - we either haven't found the players or the system to allow us to successfully play KH football for 90 mins. We can't defend for toffee Questions - will we go back to route one if it works and allows us to start amassing points? Was it individual errors or a collective panic which led to the 3 we conceded?

Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:07 - Sep 8 with 2720 views | D_Alien | The important thing is, we've maintained some momentum and moved up a place in the table The defensive problems are readily identifiable, but nothing wrong with our competitive spirit and how many times have people posted over the past 12/18 months that they'd rather see open games?

Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:09 - Sep 8 with 2660 views | electricblue | When Hill initially stepped up to first manager/coach he brought in Griff to help with the defence. From reading what as been ongoing for the past couple of seasons not defending properly and from set pieces prehaps its time that Hill got a defence coach in to help.. Plus the wednesday boxing lark needs knocking on the head.. Didnt Sutty bring in cardio workouts in his spell.... Anyway i think hill requires help in organising the defence......

We have to stop putting ourselves in the position where we're chasing the game after stupid errors. Although we battered them for the last 15-20 minutes and Wilbraham should have won it, the goals we conceded were unacceptable. How long has it been like this now? It's ridiculous.

After conceding 3 at home from a position of 2-0, Scunthorpe fans might be forgiven for thinking that too Ideally, we should just take to the pitch against a Cones XI - at least we'd win 3-1

Yeah let's sack Hill during a game! Maybe his post was the turning point - like the appalling 'f#cking Joe Thompson' one v Charlton.

Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:14 - Sep 8 with 2573 views | Shun | We shouldāve won that. Thereās a lot of talk about the first half but even then we didnāt play badly at all. We had a lot more possession and spent far more time in their box than they did in ours. Yes, even in the first half. The defending though was embarrassing, worse than anything we saw last season. McGahey was the only one of the back 4 who even resembled a defender. Second half was brilliant though and we had them under the cosh for most of the half. Rathbone was excellent, Hart showed Done how an attacking full back is supposed to play, and Wilbraham had one of his best games for us (despite missing the easiest chance heāll ever have late on). A lotās being made of the defending and so it should be - it was embarrassing at times, and 3 goals conceded from set plays tells its own story of Hillās managerial career. But there was also a lot to be encouraged by today and definitely enough to show me we wonāt be in trouble this season.

We maybe watched different games, Shun. I certainly donāt think we were the better side in the first half and Hart, while keen, was off the pace. He was bailed out by the fact Scunthorpe were penned back in the second half but he was done (no pun intended) frequently in the first half.

On limited outings so far, Hart lacks a bit of quality. Done had a good game the other night as did Ntlhe at Boro yet both are behind him today. Strange.

Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:27 - Sep 8 with 2390 views | dingdangblue | Maybe anyone watching the 9pm show tonight on Quest could note how many goals are resulting from set pieces - I know we can defend better but it might be it's a common occurrence in the lower leagues that goals are conceded this way? I don't think it's just us.

No but we are constantly giving away free kicks that we know we defend badly. Those are the facts. Today it was even worse.

Iām not saying we were the better side, Scunthorpe were well worth their lead in the first half. But we had our chances and didnāt play anywhere nearly as badly as I think comments on here suggest. It was only the back 4 who were bad, other than that we were pretty good. Regarding Hart, I was impressed how often he found a man in the opposition box in that second half. With Done he can attack well enough but his crossing is so poor that it invariably leads to nothing, today Hartās attacks more often than not found Pink shirts and lead to a Dale chance.
Match thread: Scunthorpe away on 17:35 - Sep 8 with 2281 views | fitzochris | Iām not sure why youāre looking to contradict the opinion of those who saw that today. It was shockingly inept. If you get access to the footage, rewatch the first two goals we conceded again and again. That is NOT commonplace defending in League One. [Post edited 8 Sep 2018 17:36]
