Newcastle Set To Drastically Increase Livramento Bid
Wednesday, 19th Jul 2023 12:19

According to reports in the North East, Newcastle United are about to increase their offer for Southampton defender Tino Livramento, perhaps highlighting just how derisory their opening bid was,

Newcastle spent the first part of the transfer window pleading poverty, it was said that the alleged richest club in England only had £75 million to spend in the summer transfer window. hence their offer of only £15 million for Tino Livramento.

Even if Southampton were desperate for cash this was hardly worth their while given the rumoured sell on clause of 20% of any profit made by Saints when selling him.

With Saints paying £5 million for Livramento, that would mean that Newcastle's £15 million would see Saints losing around £2 million of that to Chelsea, so selling a top player for a net profit of £8 million was not attractive.

Football Insider are claiming that Newcastle are now about to raise their bid for the right back to £25 million.

But will that be enough, Chelsea also have a buy back clause said to be £50 million and Saints would be far happier for the player to go back to Stamford Bridge.

Knowing all this, just why did Newcastle with all their money put in such a low bid, you would think they would behave with some dignity and at least match the players current valuation according to Transfermarkt of around £25 million.

This is based though on a player who has been out long term injured and only played 2 sub appearances on his return, Southampton know that even this figure is below the valuation they would achieve should he make a successful comeback to his previous form.

Saints are in no hurry with Livramento, they can afford to wait and get the market value, yes they need to sell some members of their squad quickly to fill key positions, but right back isn't one of them, with 3 other players in Kyle Walker Peters, James Bree & Lewis Payne who can play there.

If SR were to sell him for less than 50 million they want their heads examined. He is the one talent we have we need to keep along with Alcaraz.

I am sure that SR would be pleased to keep him, however as was shown when Virgil Van Dijk wanted to go, when a player has been tapped up it is difficult to keep him and the buying club uses the players desire to go to offer a low bid

With most PL clubs not willing or able to spend asking prices for players, I would keep them until Xmas and decide then whether to sell or not. if they perform keep in the first team if not B team will teach them no player is bigger than the club. VVD did learn humility at SFC. By Xmas we could be high in the race for promotion and they can chose to go or stay.

Christ, football is depressing at the moment. Bring back the good old days when Newcastle were shambolic (Titus Bramble etc). Don't like the new good Newcastle. At least Spurs are the gift that keeps giving

The Saudi Arabian elite is horrible so why would their footballing arm in England be any different?

I love your idea kenchilds70 but think of all those wages!!

It is an unequal negotiation when the seller has been relegated and if the player wants to go then we are fecked basically - once the offer is only very low instead of ridiculously low then off he will go...

Firstly despite the wealth Newcastle still have to comply with the FFP rules & are using them as a bit of an excuse for the low offers. Secondly he is on a long contract, there is no need to sell and a season to prove his full fitness might actually benefit him.
Incidentally PIF who own Newcastle are also very much involved with the clubs in the S.A league, signing players on ridiculous wages. And it is rumoured that these players can be loaned back to clubs within their group, thus circumventing the FFP rules entirely!

Have to face it, we are going to lose some big names. All depends on the recovery from his ACL injury. I can see why NUFC want him at a discount. However if we are sure it's healed, don't want him failing a medical on any transfer, then don't see why we need to sell him now. As suggested, unless the money is right now we better to let him have a run out to prove the injury has healed and if necessary sell him at Xmas.

I really hope he stays for at least another year tho.
